I was wondering if anybody had any first-hand experience with this laptop. I can't find a single review, teardown or forum post about this system and the configuration (8550u + GeForce 1050+) is unique enough where, although I'm not a fan of Asus' durability, I really want one. Just looking for feedback before taking the $1,400 plunge.

Which country are you buying from/which store?
-
Sorry! The US, so Best Buy.

CPU and GPU appear to have separate cooling. Battery appears to be on the small side. Screen is either going to be great or mediocre but because of the high resolution I'd expect battery life to suffer (expect 4-6 hours). Overall, it seems similar to the Acer Spin 5 or Nitro Spin 5.

Yeah I agree that the battery seems a bit small but that doesn't concern me too much. Cooling was my main concern, and I concur that vent placement lends to the notion of a dual fan setup. That said, a GL702 I briefly owned last year ran hot, and the XPS 15 (with 1050) I just returned ran hot as well so 0.8" scares me a bit. I also have 5-6 Asus laptops in the past 8 years with failed power adapter plugs so not the biggest Asus fan, but the spec is unique enough where I want to like it!
Also, thank you SO MUCH for those models. This was the only 8550u 1050 machine I had found, and the Acer in particular seems like a really good and more affordable alternative! -

The 1070 GL702VS and XPS 15 are known to run hot - the 702 because of inadequate heatpipes and low fan speed and the XPS because of crap VRM design.
The Spin models from Acer are decent, albeit the CPUs do run a little warm. Some undervolting is definitely recommended on those.jauffrey likes this. -
Just to update, the Q535UD appears to be showing up to local retailers, like Best Buy, and is now in-stock. It looks to be a more premium replacement to the Q524UQ, which featured a 940mx and a hard drive (and was torched in consumer reviews because of that hard drive). I was considering this model for its 1050 + 8550u configuration, but also appealing is the Lenovo Yoga 720 (1050 + 7700HQ). If I decide to go with this system, I'll update the thread with some photos! -

The Yoga 720 definitely needs undervolting. I still have no idea why they put in a 45W CPU in a chassis that is not really capable of keeping it from pulling back clocks.
Odd. The 702VM (1060) usually performs reasonably well in thermal testing. -
Ok so, I'm actually wondering the same as you, but its probably still too early. They have them in stock at best buys around me, but i went out looking for a display to test today and none had it. So I have the q534ux, which is basically the predecessor to the q535ux. The specs are different in that: mine has a 4-cell battery, this one will have a 3-cell (I know battery didn't concern you, it doesnt bother me much either because I could still get a decent 4-5 hours out of the q535 with power-saving for school stuff or browsing). Mine has a GTX 950, and you already know the upgrade for the graphics card on the q535. I've had my laptop for 2 years and never had problems, even with overheating just as long as you're in a cool room or environment. I'm looking at this upgrade because with the 950 I can only play games with low to average quality settings (doesnt bother me much). They say the q535 will be able to do 4k gaming, but I doubt it. I do think it could definitely pull off higher settings and full-hd with these specs. What I am strongly considering doing is selling my q534ux on ebay and putting the money towards the q535, but am still waiting for reviews like you. I might just decide to go ahead and jump on it but need to weigh the pros and cons first, as I am still satisfied with my laptop of two years and no problems. Even with the power adaptor. While I do hate the size, it has lasted through it all

Looks like a month later and not much has changed... the Q535ud is still in stock at best buy (on sale this week for $1199, first time on sale since launch). There are still no reviews of this thing in the wild. An unboxing video or two appeared on ebay in the last week or so... but an overseas version with 1080p and 512gb ssd instead of 256gb ssd + 2tb hd. Otherwise same specs.
Will it run hot? performance varies widely on the 8th gen quad cores... how will this do? hdmi 1.4 or 2.0? 2 lane or 4 land thunderbolt. Battery life worth using away from a cord? This has been on the notebookcheck 'upcoming reviews' list since last month... anyone had one of these? what you think? returned it? kept it?
Inquiring minds.
