Hi... I'm think of buying a new A8Js but i have one concern that hopefully someone can help me with.

As sonn as i purchase, i would like to do a full format of all partions and do a clean install of Vista with only one hard drive partion.

Is this possible with the ASUS recovery CD?
Can you use the ASUS recovery CD as a windows install disk?
IF not, can i use a Windows Vista Home Premium CD and use the ASUS CD-key that came with the comp?

I have heard there are limitations with the ASUS recovery disk which is why i ask.

    Thanks

I dont know about the Vista recovery CDs but with the Xp ones, you could. Check "winxp installation guide" on the Guides forum. Maybe that solution will work for you.

I would rather not be a guinea pig in this sense before making my purchase. I know that there are many enthusiast on this forum that do not enjoy the bloatware that comes with most notebooks. As such i'm sure there must be a Vista owner that can confirm or not my questions.

Yea, with the recovery CD you can. There's an option when recovering that allows you to recover to one partition (can't remember the name). Afaik the recovery CD is an image of XP. all the bloatware are from the driver CD's utilities and stuff section.

    so if i understand correctly,

Asus will give me two cds

    1) operating system

    2) drivers, utilities, etc.

Now with the operating system, doesn this include the full version of Vista and depending on which cd-key i use it activates home, business, ultimate, etc.

The first cd normally is a clean install of windows and the other will be if you need to install all drivers

I don't know about the A8Js, but on my G1, the recovery CD contains the OS as well as the bloatware + drivers, etc. I also wanted to do a clean install, so I ended up acquiring a Windows CD and using my XPMCE CD key. This worked for me, but getting a copy of the Windows CD might be an inconvenience/problem for some.

I'd imagine the version of Vista you would get would be predetermined on the disc, similarly to how a Windows XP cd would be predetermined to be home, pro, or MCE. If anyone knows otherwise, please let us know :)

my recently bought G2 have very little bloatwear installed. Its was just Norton, older Nero and a smaller prog i removed.
The partition on C was rather big at 87gigs but i fixe that with Paragon Partition manager.
Paragon allows me to delete and change my partition size without any data loss whatsoever. Great program
