I purchased a G50 last summer before I started school and it was fine until just recently. Long story short text and images have a distortion where they have an outline on the right side of each character image that is a teal/grey color.
I am still under warranty and I believe that it is caused by a bad display cable or the display itself.
Has anyone had experience with Asus repair what is the turnaround time?
I just got my e-mail confirming my RMA request and confirmation today after sending it in thursday, they said to wait for a printable label via email.
Another point though my display is cracked right in the top of the screen in the center, am I going to be told I have to pay for this repair even though the issue aside from the damge falls under warranty? Im hoping they wont make a fuss over this, I dont have the 400 dollars to buy a replacement display for my laptop right now.

2 months for my G1s. Not saying it's typical, not saying it's worst case scenario either.

Thanks I read some other posts and 1-2 week turnaround time seems to be the average. I am hoping to get the screen replaced free of charge but I have a feeling they are going to claim that the damage is the reason the display is busted. Anyone know how much they charge for an LCD replacement?

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. If the LCD is physically damaged, Asus will never replace that under warranty as that type of problem does not fall under warranty coverage. Unless, of course, you registered it for the 12 month Accidental Damage Protection after purchase.... in that case, you'll be more likely to get your one-time replacement repair.
2. LCD inverter cable is a quick, easy and inexpensive issue to fix if that's the culprit. Same thing with bad GPU - they just swap in a new motherboard and that's it (as long as they have one available, which they should for a G50).
3. LCD screens are the most expensive part of a notebook, up there with the motherboard. Pricing is usually $300 plus, depending on model.
You don't mention where you are...... Asus North America usually has a 1 week or less turnaround (they send the notebook back via FedEx Ground, which can add up to a week transit), as long as the parts are available, but other Asus global centers are known to take sometimes much longer. Lithus' experience and others who had G1 series issues was due to needing replacement motherboards that were nonexistent; Asus was replacing many of them with new G50 series notebooks for a while until some new MBs finally showed up.
