    Hi everyone.

At this point the asus rog G800VI seems to be the only option for me in terms of a GTX 1080 laptop that I really like. However there is still no release info I've found out about this laptop.

So any info when it's going to release to be exactly?

I heared back when it was announced that it was due to release in September. We are reaching the end of September. I did see the laptop in a few US/Canada web stores with nothing in stock and no ETA. So anyone who has more info on that?

And when coming back to laptops with the GTX 1080. MSI and Clevo sure seem to be more smart options in terms of price compared to the asus. But I simply don't like the looks of those 2 laptops, and after paying that amount of money you want everything to be great.

I considered alienware 17, but a few issues, GTX 1080 version is delayed till mid November, which makes me think their new thinner chassis can't handle the heat. And they are trying to counter that, while the G800VI even can handle both CPU and GPU overclocking, and I'm very interested in the mechanical keyboard of the asus.
And also the Aorus laptops are too thin, I don't think they can take heat all that well. I prefer cooling over thinness, but of course with some exceptions like the Acer predator 21X, that is not normal anymore.

If you have any other suggestions or pros about laptops with a GTX 1080p that I can potentially buy apart from the asus one, feel free to contribute.

This company is listing it as available, configurable, and orderable:

    http://www.avadirect.com/ASUS-G800V...d314d318d317&gclid=CLuKjqDjp88CFUtqfgodloUBDA

Others have it listed as pre-order:

It's not available on that website, it is also a pre order where there is no ETA yet.
The websites I contacted also aren't able to give an answer. since we are at the end of September I guess it will not release in september.
In the meanwhiel I saw the G701Vi pop up, which is a 17 inch gtx1080 laptop they have now with an ETA of October, again a vague date.

:( I guess I will not be able to get a gtx1080 laptop until the end of November at this rate.

A lot of new 1080 laptops to release in late Oct / early Nov.

I haven't seen any other 1080 laptops from Asus, and the G701VU isn't coming up in any searches.

    Do you have a link?

    Asus is just releasing the GL702 1060, 1070 17" laptop, but I think it's too thin for a 1080.

Lots of exciting stuff still unreleased, patience is the best thing we can have. Let them release, work out production problems, tune software / hardware, and also wait for new better displays to arrive - and be tested to make sure they aren't also disappointments (25ms 120hz screens, for one).

If you want a 1060/1070, there are lots of choices right now :)

Sorry I meant the Asus G701VI instead of VU.

And no I don't want the 1060 or 1070. As an enthusiast, which currently has the GTX 980M I want the GTX 1080. Normally I buy a new laptop every Two or Three GPU Cycles depending on the performance and architecture changes. But this is the first time I see such a significant difference in only once GPU cycle that I want to go for it. I get to buy laptops discounted through my working place + my current laptop which I bought for 1700€ (original price 2300€) I can still sell for 1200€ for sure as it's almost 2 years old.

For other interested ones, this is the only information I was able to find so far. However I'm also not 100% sure if this is true.
It states that it will be available on November on hidevolution. I know a few other brands that also are going to release their 1080 lineup on November, so it might have to do with component availability.

It looks like it's going to be available a number of places when the G701VI releases :)

No the G701 and G800 are different laptops I'm waiting for the G800. But I did mention the G701 too indeed. The G800 has an UHD screen and a mechanical keyboard + It's as in the naming scheme states 18 inch instead of 17 inch. There are more differences, but just stating the ones that concern me the most.

This is footage of the G800, note even though the chassis is practically the same as the GX800, this one has only red colored backlight for the keyboard, while the gx800 is rgb

    Oops, that's wild, Asus has an 18.4" G800VI and a 17.3" G701VI both with GTX 1080's...

I asked the Mod to change the title back to G800VI here again... :)

Here is the new G701VI thread:

I too am waiting for the G800. It basically ticks all the boxes for me. My P870DM-G performs really well but I can't stand its keyboard and I would love a bigger screen.

My only problem with the G800 is its price tag. Everybody has it listed for 4500$ which I can't understand at all. A P870DM-2 with better specs costs around 3000$, so how can they justify all that extra cost?

I hope that the final price ends up being much lower because at 4500$ it would be unjustifiable for me.

Ahhh, so the G800VI 18.4" is also water cooled, like the GX800VH 18.4" - the one I am looking at btw.
    https://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/ROG-GX800VH/

    The G701VI is an air-cooled GTX 1080 17.3" laptop :)

Let me ask the mod to change the name back here, and I will create a new thread for the G701VI.

Impossible. I refuse to believe you can buy a laptop for 3000$ that has 1TB ssd, UHD IPS G-sync monitor, a GTX 1080 and 64GB ram. At least without special prices from somewhere. With all those specs you easily reach 4000$. And then again the asus one does have mechanical keyboard, their custom water blocks in the laptop plus it's a slightly larger laptop. I do think that it's very pricy indeed. but that's why there is the G701VI I suppose. It's significantly cheaper also housing a GTX 1080.

Also @hmscott in case you missed it

this is the official link for the G800 for more details

The thing that would bother me is if those specs you just mentioned can't be adjusted. Because I don't want a UHD display in an 18 inch laptop, and I certainly don't need 64GB of RAM, 16 or at most 32 would do just fine. Here's a link to HIDevolulion's P870DM3's page, play around with the configurations a bit and see how much cheaper the quote would be. And that's with a much better 6700K CPU as well.

    http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p870dm3-dual-gtx-1080.html

I know that it has a mechanical keyboard and a slightly bigger screen size which are exactly the attributes that are appealing to me, but I sure hope that there will be some flexibility in the configuration to drag the price a bit down from what it's currently at.

Yeah you can get it relatively cheap depending on the part you chose, for instance I chose the 4K display (becuase I will never pick the QHD one, because that gsync 120 hz one is a TN panel instead of an IPS panel, also will not go for FullHD) I chose 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD of samsungs new 961 (A very expensive ssd). And I reach almost 4000$

I did see a version of the G800vi listed with 32GB instead of 64 and 512GB ssd instead of 1TB. I do need 1TB, because I have some large SDK's, Engines and IDE's for developing + Keeping lots of games. Currently running tight on my 512GB SSD. So I won't opt for the 32GB version. And I don't know how much cheaper that one will be.

Though I wouldn't have bought that laptop for 4500$ normally, but buying it from my working place means a discount of 21% which is a significant amount on such a laptop. Only thing that bothers me is the type of SSD they use in the laptop. I hope it's the new samsung's 961 nvme ssd or the one that will release this month, the 960 Pro. But think it's unlikely :(

And I also hope I can find an international US QWERTY keyboard version, as my counter uses the stupid azerty layout.

Oh don't get me started on the AZERTY layout, I currently live in France so finding a laptop with a QWERTY keyboard here is close to impossible!

And yeah there's zero chance that the SSD we'll find inside this laptop is the 961 nvme or the 960 pro. That's why I hate configurations that are not flexible. See my SIG I chose to get my Clevo without any drives and then bought both drives on my own. They cost me 450$ together, I would have paid at least double that amount if I had added them to the initial build.

That 21% discount does sound amazing though it would bring the price right to where I need it to be
