I found this OEM laptop from portableone.com that is based on asus S37S. However though, it's description shows the laptop has a "Carbon Fiber Alloy Encasing".
Does anyone know whether this means that the S37S does come with a "Carbon Fiber Alloy Encasing", or it's the compay pushed asus to make them a "Carbon Fiber Alloy Encasing" exclusively?![]()
I was hoping the S37S has some advanced material for ths chassis...![]()

no every single asus computer is carbon fiber alloy.
it means theres carbon fiber and mostly plastic lol. like my a8js it has carbon fiber in the bottom peice of the chassis
the bottom is solid with no flex, it is carbon fiber reinforcement but its all plastic around it.
the lid is all plastic and flexes easily.
carbon fiber alloy means.... its plastic. -
Some of the higher end Asus models have more CF in them. Like the lid on the VX2, much of the body of the U1, parts of the chassis and lid on the W5/7. Stuff like that.
On a barebones model like the S37s, its probably just a little bit of CF on the bottom, and thats all. -
Some models were entirely carbon fiber, like the M6 (unless I'm mistaken).
Others like the V6 and W3 are carbon fiber + even fancier stuff like magnesium and brushed aluminum - the latter virtually impossible to scratch (unless you mean it). I think the W3 has a plastic bottom though.
I think that the V1 also has no plastic in it. -
Ya but in asus speak, carbon fiber ALLOY means its all plastic.
What there is is on the bottom the plastic attaches to a grid of carbon fiber.
thats an ALLOY. Plastic and carbon fiber. Although i think alloy should mean metal. Someone can look up whether its real or marketing bs I think the latter.
Carbon fiber means its carbon fiber. -
Yeah, I wasn't disagreeing with that, "carbon fiber alloy" for a notebook with plastic is complete b.s.
An "alloy" is according to wiki, "a homogeneous mixture of two or more elements, at least one of which is a metal, and where the resulting material has metallic properties".
A better term describing such notebook builds would perhaps be "carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic", or "carbon-fiber skeleton". -

I dont think cf alloy is anything special. Magnesium alloy or pure aluminum brushed or not is something special

Trioview is glossy transflective, meaning that sun glare doesn't blind you if you use it outside. Not worth 400 bucks though.

j/k
"Carbon fiber Alloy" sounds high performance but I am sure it is nothing special. -

Using this method increases the strength of the parts maybe 2-4x, allowing for the use of thinner/lighter panels while maintaining structural strength.
Not like the woven CF you see in say, tuner auto parts or airplane wings, but it *is* an important component of the material. -
