    Hi all,

I've been eyeballing this laptop for a while and i had some questions I was hoping someone with the s400 could answer for me, I haven't been able to find these answers in my online search

First, how is(are) the harddrive(s) configured? I read it has a 500+24gb hdd. So I'm assume it has a regular 500gb hdd and a 24gb mssd that it uses as cache? Or is it a single drive? I was at the microsoft store and talked to a sales associate and he said its a single hybrid hdd (although he didn't seem very knowledgeable), and when I checked under disk manger it showed 2 separate disks, a 500 and a 24.

Secondly, if they are separate, are they both replaceable (or is the mssd soldered)? If so, could I just get a 256gb mSSD and replace the 24gb with it and install windows exclusively on the mSSD and not use the caching system? Or is it setup to were you have to use the mSSD as a cache?

Thirdly, and maybe most difficult, if this does have a mSSD like i suspect, does anyone happen to know the SATA revision that the hdd and mssd run on? SATA2 or SATA3?

    Thanks for all the help!

    Hi bavman,

It's a dual drive config, so one dedicated drive and then a separate msata ssd (24 GB), the latter being intended for faster boot. :)

I believe the mSATA drive is removable, though I can't distinctly recall for certain - and if it was, it would violate the warranty to access it.

The last question I'm not certain on. The primary hard drive slot may be sATA 6 Gb/s, but that's by conventional design and may vary here, and I don't have a unit off hand to really ascertain sATA revisions of the ports - though if I find out, I'll get back to you! Whatever revision the primary sATA connector is though, the HDD won't saturate it's full potential.
