Hey English is not my first language so please excuse me for spelling errors
The fan on my new Asus s56 starts to run very loudly 1 - 2 minutes after the machine has booted up. this continues for hours even when I cloose all apps and programs. Even when I am running games the speed of the fan does not change. the air that is blowing out off the machine is very cool
    Is this normal?

Welcome to the forum. No that does not sound normal, please install HWiNFO64 Download or the 32 bit version and post what temps you see (from sensors dialog). Also what is your ambient temperature?

Hi Josea. I have the same problem with my Asus S56CA.
Is the download compatible with Windows 8.

My fan kicks in from the start and is stone cold most of the time.
Not a heavy user, no games or movies.

Happens on all Windows and Asus Power4Gear Hybrid power plans and settings.
Including Processor Power Management that are set to Min 5% Max 1005 and in Passive Mode.

    Please help.

There are a number of thermal monitoring applications out there for free download; HWINFO32/64 is certainly good. Speccy is useful as well (those are two of the most robust and thorough programs I'm familiar with). Try any of them out and see what temperatures they display. You can check certain temperatures in the system BIOS as well.

If everything looks fine from a thermal standpoint, then it could be that the fan is faulty, or what regulates the RPM is. Let us know what you find out!

    Hi!

I have exactly the same problem with my laptop (Asus S56CM-XX013H) . I mean when i boot on windows, the fans got loud even if nothing is running! Furthermore, it blows cold air. I removed power4gearhybrid from Asus but the problem is still persistent.

The only way to stop that is to reboot the laptop. Indeed, after that, the fans keep quiet and works normally. It's odd!
    I hope it's not a hardware problem...

Do you have any idea ?

    Sorry for my basic English

Look into a chipset driver as well. There may even be a firmware update for the fan regulators.

    Good luck!

Sorry for posting the link and nothing else. I was heading out of the office, so I left it at that.

Can you make a new power scheme? I think the Power4Gear software tends to override Windows power options configuration.

Did the BIOS update help at all?

Handy thread, I thought it was just my ASUS but obviously there are ongoing issues.

I checked out the bios info as suggested above and am only able to download a zipped .208 file. Any ideas on how I proceed to update the BIOS?

I run the ASUS updater in the background so would this not deal with BIOS and firmware updates?

    Cheers all.

    Hi Guys..

I have just bought an Asus S46 and am having the same problems with the fan getting 'stuck' on full blast blowing cold air with the CPU running at < 5%. There is an Asus BIOS update for it stating a 'fix for the fan getting stuck' but I'm very weary of updating the BIOS and 'Bricking' the laptop. The Asus tech suggested that I use the Asus BIOS updater utility but I've heared you should stay away from Windows BIOS flashing programs. Does anyone know anyone who has done this successfully? Has anyone done it using the BIOS EasyFlash feature? here a helpful link to update BIOS http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...books-read-before-you-brick-your-machine.html
Do Asus laptops have BIOS crash recovery features avalable?
Also does anyone know if playing with any of this void the warranty?

    Hey jazz,

Typically, in regards to the recovery: no. Some boards have a jumper that resets it, but if the BIOS becomes corrupt from a bad flash, it can mean a RMA.

As for the warranty, it should not void anything as long as you're not using a modded/custom BIOS. But... check with an Asus rep first via email. That way you have a record from them with a definitive answer. :)

    I got an ASUS S300CA that's doing the same thing. I think it's a 2013 model.

It can be powered off for days, then once you turn it on after a minute or so the CPU fan kicks into HIGH gear. You turn it off then when you turn it back on, right when you see the Windows 8 spinning logo the CPU fan stays in HIGH gear. What's odd is that the temps reported by Speedfan can be at 37deg and the fan's still at HIGH speed.

I opened the bottom panel and pulled the CPU fan connector from motherboard. I noticed a wire/pin pulled easily out of the connector, it was yellow, maybe one of the sensor leads. I plugged it back into the motherboard securely and only time will tell if that was my fix. I just did it and this issue seems so random, so it's hard to know right now. I also tried the latest BIOS update with no results.

Also, with this laptop when it's not running at high gear and it's normal, and I run Prime95 at 100% CPU, the CPU fan is hardly making any noise to keep it around 70deg. So in normal use the CPU fan should never go to HIGH speed.

You may have disconnected the wire for the tacho. That's what is responsible for allowing the PC to read how many RPMs the fan is spinning at.
