I have read in several sources that the Asus S6F in limited edition pink would be available in November or December and only 50 would be made. I've seen several online merchants selling them but it looks like more than 50 were made no?
Also, I had seen a picture of the Asus S6F in Camel Brown, Dark Brown, Pink and White. Did the white model never materialize? Thanks.
Finally, can someone give me info on all the different versions of the S6F? From what I have found, the camel and dark brown versions have a 1.5 ghz processor whereas the non-leather and pink have a 1.66 ghz. The pink one also has a 120 gb hard drive versus the 80-100 in the rest. Finally, I read that these could be upgraded to 1.5 gigs of ram but the Pink one I think can be upgraded to 2 gigs?

Each color was supposed to be sold for I think 45 days a piece or something..... We got 2 of the pink models and I don't think we're selling any of them because they are so limited. I took one for a gift and I think someone else here wanted to pick it up for their sister or something. Personally I think it's WAY too PINK - even for a girl that loves pink... but that's not my color I guess. I think white may come in January as a winter model (white = snow.. I don't know).
If you want more help on the S6, I've had mine in pieces.... It's a tight little system, but there isn't much you can do without ripping it all down. What I did for my personal unit was I grabbed a camel leather lid and put it on the aluminum model with the faster cpu..... I did it because the palmrest is brushed aluminum and that looks and will hold up better than the leather. I love the leather lid, but I think it looks tacky on the palmrest. Email me if you have questions... I know all the models inside and out, but this was one of the last ones I had apart, so it's fresh. -
You got two and kept one? Why'd you keep it may I ask? And would you be willing to sell it or the other one? I'd be interested in buying it.
The hard drive is not easily accessible in a compartment under the laptop right like most laptops? You have to take the whole thing apart to get to the hard drive like the Vaio TX for instance?
I wonder why the non-leather models have the 1.66 ghz CPU in contrast to the 1.5 ghz CPU in the camel brown and dark brown models.
Do you know if there will be a refresh of this model or a new 11.1" model with ULV Core Duo/Core 2 Duo?
Speaking of which, why was there a Core Solo ULV chip released but not Core Duo ULV? Not currently possible? I hear that Santa Rosa next year will introduce ULV Core Duo/Core 2 Duo chips?
Its not possible to upgrade the CPU in the Asus S6F right? I hear that LV and ULV chips are soldered not socketed?
Also, from all the pictures I've seen of the Asus S6F, the keyboard is a dark greyish color but I think the Pink model has a pearl white keyboard?
Finally, is there a dedicated forum/s for Asus S6F owners? I'm guessing not.
I like to ask questions sorry, probably will have even more to ask you if you can answer my current ones. : ) -

Ok, well you didn't need to email me your entire post - but I'm almost through all the questions, so you'll get an email back in a little while.
-
rahulnirmal, you go through a number of note books i notice
I personally think the S6F (non leather) is the best looking Asus notebook next to the W2 series. -
Sorry Goren, I'm a picky little guy.
Really, my perfect notebook is just anything 12" or less, ever since I saw the Vaio TR and Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D at my Frys Electronics three years ago, I've been in love with ultraportables, even though I always would keep it plugged in and mostly use it at home. I'll admit I'm crazy. -

I'm with Goren.. almost... Now the S6 models have won a ton of "best looking" awards, but more importantly in my eyes, have one a couple of international design awards. From pictures of just the notebook, the proportions don't ooze sexiness like the V6..... but in person, it's such a small notebook, yet it really have a lot in it - even though you, probably me, and others always want these maxed out, top of the line everything - no matter the size... it's really a great laptop for what it's intended market..... Like I told you in that email, I used an aluminum model and then took the lid of a leather model and made the perfect system for me... one that would hold up in the are that gets the most wear (the palmrest), and yet would look sexy both closed and from behind while in use.... second sexiest next to the W2... I don't know... I might put the V6 inbetween, but it's certainly up there...
Two things the S6 can't be beat in:
1. keyboard quality for a sub 12" notebook... as nice to type on as a W3 or bigger, with an even more (if you can believe it) tactitle feel with aluminumized keys (just like that on the old powerbooks)... really nice.
2. build quality for a sub 12" - solid as any other Asus. -
Keyboards are absolutely not a problem for me, I can type exactly the same as on an 10.6" notebook as a 15.4" notebook, the keyboard size doesn't deter me one bit. I type the exact same as on my Vaio TX as my Compaq V3000. It'll just take me a day to get used to the inverted FN, CTRL button placement if I get the Asus. I have never owned an Asus in my life but have only heard GLOWING praise about them. My Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D unfortunately was quite poorly built unfortunately, I'd be afraid to transport it for fear of the casing developing a new crack or something like that.
I just checked my inbox and I don't see a message from you. Its okay, I can wait. -
PROPortable Company Representative
I'll forward it again...
If you want to jump into an Asus and find out what all the "glowing praise" is about... I'd suggest you get one of the notebooks that I'd be caught with..... currently, that would be the S6, W7, W3, V6, W2, R1, R2... and I'll certainly add the V1 and V2 as soon as I get production models of those..... You can not beat any of these models and they all exude quality, beauty, and performance... that's the trifecta of anything you could hope to own, from a watch to a car... -
I'm sorry Justin, I still haven't received it, my email again is [email protected] or [email protected], both lead to the same inbox. Hopefully the third time will be the charm?

OK, I'll to it one last time for you.

Great, I got the email this time, thank you.
Concerning the chart, are you sure the pink model has a twice as fast DVD burner as all the other models? Also, you are sure they can be upgraded to 2 gigs of ram? Everywhere I've read, they can only be upgraded up to 1.5 gigs of ram as 512 is on the motherboard and you can insert another 1 gig stick.
Also, I've seen that both brown leather models come with a 3 and 6 cell battery, not just the pink model as stated in the chart. And I thought the non-leather came with a 1.66 ghz processor? -
PROPortable Company Representative
I sent you an email so you can get these questions answered off the forum..... otherwise, you have a one sided conversation with my me seems rather odd. I think it was late when i wrote them up, but to correct it:
Yes, 512mb is on the motherboard, with one slot which will come with a 512mb so-dimm. Currently, you can only upgrade these to 1.5gb, but down the road, you could use a 2gb so-dimm and get 2.5gb in this unit potentially.
All of the units have the same LV 1.5ghz cpu
Only US model to come with two batteries is the Pink model... personally, I think the 3 cell is worthless... again, another issue of costing about the same as the 6, and not saving you more than a coupe ounces.... but giving you only half the life.
The hard drive is hard to get to, it's on the underside of the motherboard and that needs to be pulled to swap it, but I can do that in about 5 minutes.
The cpu is soldered - the ULV and LV cpus typically are.
The Pink model gets the 8x DVD super multi while the others have the 4... Personally, that's the least important change between them because they both do all the same formats and the difference between 4 and 8x isn't killer for most road warriors as long as the formats are there.... Just to perhaps get you better acquainted with the tiny S6, I've provided some shots to give you an idea of where things are.

From what I have read, the pink model will only be available through the holidays and only 4000 were made worldwide. Lets suppose I buy it, do you think when I sold it later on to get a new laptop, I could get a good return on it since its so rare? The S6F itself is already rare but the pink will be even more so, wow only 4000 made and I could own one of them!

It's not limited through the holidays, somehow Asus US thought pink goes well with Christmas.... but I guess we shouldn't expect them to know this makes no sense. As I told you, the pink model was *supposed* to be available through ONLY the month of October for national breast cancer awareness month....... and we didn't bring them in until December... go figure. 1 of 4,000 - as in the PM I just sent off to you is not a limited edition when it comes to Asus.... We've had limited runs in the past of a total of 50 of one month a few years ago.. and a total of 10 (of a certain color) of another model a couple years ago..... 1 of 4,000 is not a collectible, but whatever floats your boat as they say.
... I mean, they focus the white laptops on women, and I for one am not ashamed to say I like certain models done in a pearl white because they're different..... but I can't do pink...... Even women have to LOOOOOOVE pink to be able to drop the dough on this one... It's one reason it's limited to 4,000......... but it's also why we only brought in 50 to the US... Asus has a niche market to start with and they have to find Asus fans with money to drop on a $2,000 plus laptop that LOVE pink...... Paris Hilton might like this laptop, but I don't know.
Wait a second..... it could be your avatar that's put an image in my head this whole time, but you're a guy, right? There's no harm in liking the color pink either... I have plenty of pink shirts... just more pastely than HOT pink like this S6.... -
I'm a dude and I have to admit that the pink is a really ugly color and why am I considering so much to buy it? Because I'm just simply insane.

Like I said, I don't want to knock your color choice or your sex... like I said, I wear pink... my laptop won't be pink... but I do like white which is the "common" female color for a notebook..... Pink is the best color notebook you can get a breast cancer survivor though... it's a no brainer gift, I'll tell you.
Honestly, I'm telling you right now YOU are better off with the aluminum model and either getting another leather lid now or perhaps later (this coming quarter should bring the white model and in the next 6 months we should see a couple more). I'll tell you from my own experience that the leather palmrest is a big much and absorbs oils and dirt..... the brushed aluminum palmrest on the aluminum model however is just like that on the V6/W1/W2...... which is great. As I mentioned to you I put a camel brown lid on mine, but will switch to the white leather one as soon as I can because the S6 is what I keep in my car - and my car seats are white leather... I'm insane like you.. I'm just trying to knock so sense into you from one insane dude to another..

The Dark Leather (chocolate) is my fav colour in this range, I think it would age better than the others.
The Pink S6F has been a runaway success in the UK, I don't know about how many have been made but I think due to demand on this model, more are coming. -
Yes, and if the palmrests prove to be a problem with sweaty palms and all, that would look better too, for a while at least.
Are you telling me that Kate Moss has a pink Asus? -
PROPortable Company Representative
The white covers aren't available yet because the white models won't be released until probably 2-3 months down the road.
I'll tell you right now that based on wear, the dark would wear better in a traditional sense. The leather isn't going to wear though... it's attached to the aluminum lids with glue and the leather itself is paper thin.. it's about 1/64".... it's not on a cotton backing or something like that.. it's not thicker. In a case like this it'll wear like better than paint, but it's on the same level. The lid is really no problem at all, I've determinded that. The palmrest on the other hand was something I didn't like. The leather on the palmrest seemed to make my palms sweatier and it basically felt like a baseball glove after a trip I took. So, I swapped the palmrest with the "regular" model... the palmrest on that is a dark grey anodized brushed aluminum... much like the V6 has, but not as dark. That's got a nice feel and you can't break down the anodized finish with your palms........ We have 2 1/2 year old W1's that get abused here every day that prove that. So for me, it was a mix and match that I felt worked for me.. and I love being able to swap it. The camel leather works for me on the lid, but since I've decided to put this in my car, I'm either going to put a lid from the white model on it, or actually I have customized a couple of these myself.... if I can get the right leather and get it thin enough, I'll match it myself.... but the lids don't really get dirty or worn... just the wear you'd have putting it in and out of a bag and their sleeve that's included is so soft that it really won't be a problem. -
Yeah, I saw a couple of promotional pics of the white leather model but they haven't surfaced yet so far.
Hey Justin, do you know if and when this model will be updated to Core 2 Duo LVs or will they use ULV processors instead for greater battery life or will there be another 11.1" model released entirely? If I can get my Vaio TX fixed, maybe I'll just use that until the new S6s or whatever new model Asus can come out with.
I'm looking forward to a new Asus 11.1" with Core 2 Duo.
Also, do you know why they decided to use a LV processor as opposed to a ULV processor? All I know is that the Core Duo ULVs will have 533 FSB whereas the LVs have 667 FSB. Guess they decided performance was more important than battery life? I dunno. -
Justin, Asus is probably using the same technology deployed by Holland's Ego in its computers, now sold at Neiman Marcus
, supplied by Dow and called "Inclosia":

Asus so far has no plans on making the S6 a core2duo.

I'm starting to agree with Rahul!
I think I want a pink Asus too.Hey Justin, if Rahul and I buy one at the same time is that considered a "power buy?"

All I'm saying is that for the sake of dudes making a possible mistake.... having the option to buy or have other lids and palmrests should be a serious consideration. I'd much rather convince you that a stock aluminum S6 would be a better buy, and then have you order up pink or camel or dark brown lids and or palmrests to swap out later. I'll tell you right now you have to be one of those girls that wears "PINK" on the ass of her sweatpants to fully appreciate this model. Like I said, it was originally insteaded to be sold during October for breast cancer awareness month, as we came very close to losing a member of the Asus family to breast cancer this past year..... Just turned out that the models didn't sell out as fast as expected, so the pink model had to wait a couple months..... If you're not one of those two types of people, you'll grow tired of it very quickly. I'd almost even suggest if you were to order up some pink lids and you sit and stare at them for a couple weeks before you put them on you laptop because it takes a bit of time to do it...... and that gives you time to realize you're just going through a phase
-
Hehe, well I was thinking of giving the pink model to someone else, actually! My BFF
But I also like your idea of pink lids, or the dark brown one for best wear. So, I see you're selling the S6F now for $1,800, that's more in my territory too.
I didn't know the lids were so readily available! -
Wait, the lids are sold separately?
-
Also, come to think of it, that white leather lappy might be the one to wait for, although I'm sure it will be hell on the wristpads. Will have to travel with leather cleaner!
-
Hey Justin, I looked at your site for the S6F model here.
http://proportable.com/detail.aspx?ID=186
Just wanted to point out that the picture of the camel leather model with the bag and mouse pictured is actually of the W6, not the S6. The other pics are fine.
Also, according to the page, are you sure only the Pink model comes with the 30 ZBD (Zero Bright Dot) LCD Warranty and 2 Year Global System Warranty? I swore that all S6s have this warranty, or maybe thats for outside North America?
And also, I looked at other international models and all of the leather models come with both a 3 and 6 cell battery whereas only the Pink model in North America comes with both these batteries and has the faster 1.66 ghz Core Duo processor and 8X DVD burner and 120 gig hard drive.
I wonder why in North America at least, the Pink model is the most highly specced? -
