I've had an S96J for a few months with no issues, but today, I booted up and found that when headphones are plugged in through the headphone jack, the laptop speakers are still playing. Has anyone experienced this and how can I fix this?

edit: I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio drivers, and no luck, the speakers are sill on when headphones are plugged in. Is this a hardware issue?

It is a hardware issue. A lot of F3J owners have had this (including me) and as far as I know the only solution is to have the so-called "Audio DJ" card replaced under warranty.
Alternatively you can try Vista or (Ubuntu) Linux, because they have a strange effect on the hardware problem - speakers are muted 24/7 but the headphone jack works fine.

This has become quite a regular problem on a few Asus models, including the Z70V/Va, A6, and now the Z96/S96. It seems to be a hardware flaw that can happen at almost any time.
I would recommend that you contact your dealer for a possible replacement or fix...

Yeah, you might try just plugging something in and taking it out quite a few times, just to make sure you trip the switch and set it right. My roommate has troubles with his Dell doing that, and I have had problems on an HP with similar issues.
