I recently purchased an Asus S96J from powernotebooks.com and have so far been extremely satisfied with everything; the wait was well worth it. It arrived earlier this morning and installation of Windows went on without a hitch. However when it came time to install drivers I found myself running into a " Microsoft Bus Driver should be loaded in your system before installing Realtek HD Audio Driver" error message upon installing audio drivers.

I did a bit of research and it seems to be somewhat common, but getting a fix for my particular model proved to be much harder. One of the first things I did was installed the updated BIOS for the screen graininess, and as a result I think I wiped the option that was used for fixing this problem (re-enabling the correct audio device). I have no settings for hardware at all in the BIOS setup, just some CPU information and boot order etc, the very basic stuff. It also seems as though the BIOS no longer presents my motherboard model, and going through the paperwork included with the notebook hasn't turned up anything either.

I have turned to the driver CD multiple times and have yet to see any results; I've run the CPU hotfix, INF update, VGA driver, UAA driver, as well as many others and still nothing. The audio driver always stops midway and presents the error.

Sorry for the long read, I hope someone can guide me through this...

    Thanks.

Don't worry you're fine, I had the same problem (I got the exact same error), and it was simply a driver on the CD-ROM that needed to be installed. The BIOS fix for graininess has nothing to do with it, in fact nowadays the BIOS doesn't do anything after your machine boots into windows. Check the CD again, and if you really can't find it, call Donald up and he should be able to email you the driver files or tell you where to get it.

Alright, thanks for the help. Just on a side note though, could you tell me what my motherboard model should be for future reference? I read that Asus should have some of the drivers I need on their site if I gave it the correct model number.

The mobo model name will come up as Z96J. The S96J and Z96JS are identical except that one is VBI, lower res screen and lacks bluetooth.

Yesterday, I completely reinstalled all my audio drivers :)

You need the Universal Audio Architecture patch (kb888111), its small about 900k, install that, it takes a little bit, then go to windows update and there you will find an option to upgrade to the latest realtek hd audio drivers...
