The Asus G2S is sure great, but I would prefer the T7700 2.4 GHz, 800 MHz DDR2 and 160 GB 7200 rpm hard drive.

    That G1S sounds awesome.

Alot more capable than both the Macbook Pro and T61, without being too big to be called a laptop.

Does "Intel® Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN Draft-N network adapter, mean that the network adapter is not yet final? (hence "draft")

it means it only meets the pre-specifications of the 802.11n standard, which as usual takes ages to get to a final stage.
802.11n itself hasnt reached a final stage, not the adapter itself which simply tries to get you the best of what's possible as of today

That's the same issue with the last G1/G2 as well, in fact, the last G2 had a slightly WEAKER video card with a LOWER resolution for a larger screen. At least this time they're essentially equal, hehe. I guess it's just the G2 for someone with a larger screen.

I'm hoping that the new models come in at the same price as the old, maybe a little more expensive. Then I'll have to decide between the new and the hopefully cheaper old before they run out of stock.

Meh, the F series are supposed to be like the budget 15.4" notebook line. It doesn't surprise me very much. People with money would buy the G1 or the V1J anyway.

Not really, The F3jp has a x1700, Which is pretty descent, And while I would like the V1J, Apart from looks its a very similar machine but with a drastic price hike.

so true. For a person like me, looking for the best video card at the lowest price, an F3JP with an 8600GT would be a dream come true

Does the V1J have a 8600GT or GS? Can anyone confirm that?
As well, in terms of clocking, is the 8600GT likely clocked higher in the G1S than in the V1J? Lastly, in terms of heat dissipation, is the G1S less likely to overheat because of its gaming oriented design and larger size?

Since V1 is a business model, it has lower priority to refresh to Santa Rosa, from the road map, Asus listed models to be refreshed until July, V1 is not on the list, neither V2, R1.

    Models will be refreshed soon are: F3SC(t7100, NV8400), A8SC-A1(t7100, NV8400), F3E-A1(T7100), A7S(T7300, NV8400), G2S-A1, G1S-A1, F3SV,

Ah, thanks. It was just that CNET somehow released a review of the Santa Rosa version of the V1, and it listed the video card as an 8600GT. However, given the credibility (or the lack of which) of CNET, I just thought I'd come here and ask :)

Not imminent, no, but there will eventually be one. The thing is, though, the difference between the 8600GS and 8600GT. Previously we had the A8Js and G1p sharing the same video card - 7700GO and 512mb VRAM. However, one was 14.1in and the other was 15.4. Now there is likely going to be a difference between 14.1in and 15.4in notebooks in that it's unlikely that a 8600GT will be put into a 14.1. The 8600GT has 2x as many shaders as the 8600GS, but is clocked somewhat lower, but has a fillrate of 7.6bil/s compared to 4.8bil/s. So far from what I've seen, the C90 and G1S are the only two confirmed 15.4in Asus notebooks with the 8600GT.

It's still too early to tell, the ASUS A8 had like 8 different models, a few integrated graphics and then there were the 7600, 7700, x1700, x1600, x1400, among others.

MilestonePc.orgi see that you have global warranty. Can u please tell me as Asus reseller, if there is official repair center in Slovenia, where i can use this global warranty?

I am interested in asus c90 but if there is no any repair center in slovenia to use global warranty than i am down.

    thanks

And, again, the G2 is completely useless next to the identically specced G1. At least this time it has WUXGA.

They did? Do you have a link to it?

Would you be able to tell us what models were on that list, if it isn't classified info of some kind?

All the current models will be refreshed, except for the ones that are EoL(V6, W3). And new ones probably :)

mention possible refresh of the G1S...do you think they would upgrade the NV8600GT from 256mb to 512? What else would you expect to see in a refresh?

The G2S is interesting, I think I'll buy it.
What is the utility to have a 800Mhz FSB when the memory is 667MHz???

Pretty funny res for a 15,4" screen :p Are you sure you`re not mixing anything up with a 11,1" subnotebook screen? Should be either 1280x800 or 1440x900.

Does anyone know if Asus will release a Santa Rosa ultraportable soon, especially 12 or under screen size and especially 11.1", an update to the S6Fm series? I'd love to see it have the GMA X3000 graphics and L7300 or L7500, anyone have any news please? Please?

You can check on Milestonepc.com or GentechPC, one of them or maybe even both list the F3SV-A1 and B1. B1 is around 1600$ with T7500 and 1Go Ram. Pretty interesting... but doesn't seem to be scheduled for Europe!!!! Arrghhhhh         All we have so far at 1280x800 models, can you trust that? Come on, thats for 13', not 15'!!!

The official MSRP for the upcoming F3SV notebooks:

    A1 $1499
    B1 $1599

The F3SV-B1 will be a great purchase for those who want almost G1S-like performance (8600M GS in the F3SV-B1, 8600M GT in the G1S) without the bells and whistles and the huge price tag.

A Sony FZ with 8600M GT for 1600$? I would be interested by a website with this price! Same processor of course, a 7500, or 7300 minimum.

Ok, poor 1280*800 screen, forget about it. A blue ray laptop with this resolution, that's a waste... Too bad, the rest was promising.

yeah thwe FZ looking promising untill i saw that screen res, and the super slow 4200rpm hard drive.

the G1S is looking like the machine for me, the only problem is its design..it just looks so gawdy.

and i hate paper launches. ive been a hi end graphics enthusiast for ages and over at AT we were so sick of ATi and Nvidia paper launching. "hey look at this 6800U its amazing!.... you cant have it for another 2 months though, sorry".

its been better of late, nvidia really been on the ball with near immediate availability of all announced cards since the 7 series. infact the 7 series launch was the best because you could acutally buy nearly all the top end cards from day one. we didnt have to wait hardly at all for G80, and suprisingly, despite the delays, AMD's R600 was out to buy pretty soon after announcement.

these laptop folk need to follow suit

I don't understand why people are so desperately after 800mhz memory. It will hardly give any increase in speed.
The FSB is quadpumped from 200mhz, the memory is dual channel, so essentially 400mhz memory would be matching the FSB 1:1... Unless I'm vastly mistaken.

Due to the architecture of the C2D processor (namely its amazingly hungry core), it was being crippled by the 667 FSB on Napa. The 800 MHz FSB allows the many physical improvements of the C2D over the original Yonah based architecture (its widened data pipelines to be specific) to really kick in. It isn't about the memory, It is about the CPU itself, it needs that sort of bandwidth to really get cranking.

    EDIT: Preliminary Benchmark Comparison

The a8 version is quite a downgrade from an A8js. I just wish they release a version with a better graphics card and the 1440x900 screen soon.

QFT, I dislike it when companies downgrade a series to add new technology. Release it later if you can't price it well right now. I would be shocked if they didn't offer a better version later though.
