As the title says, Asus Smart Gesture Software sometimes disappears from my laptop. I have had the Asus UX32VD for almost 5 months now, but in the last couple of weeks it happened 3 times that Asus Smart Gesture just vanished.

Well, not completely vanished - the files are still in the folder, but it's not running, it is not listed among the installed software any more and also does not show up in the start menu.

Has anyone else experienced this weird problem?

Haven't heard of that happening, but I digress; I'm not exactly flabbergasted either. Have you tried downloading it and reinstalling the software? And have you checked the running Services in Task Manager to assure it's not running?

Yes, I did look in the Task Manager as well, it doesn't run. And trying to get it to run/reinstall with the files that are still on the computer doesn't work. I just reinstall/repair the program with the original software and it works again. It's not a bit deal... just really weird. Until now it hasn't happened again after reinstalling the driver.

I had my first instance of this happen yesterday. I have no clue what caused it but I was trying to 2 finger scroll and could not. I noticed the smart gesture app not running. I then searched for it to start it up and nope. I restarted it and it loaded back up like normal. So weird but eh... 8 second startups have their advantage.

That is weird. I guess do a clean uninstall/reinstall to see if it acts up still. I recommend contacting Asus support to see if they're aware of this - maybe there is a hotfix (or one is slated for release soon).

With my newly acquired UX31 with the touch screen

The only way to get it back seems to be a reboot. I have noticed that it's most likely to occur when switching between the Metro UI and the regular desktop.

Have tried removing and re-installing the smart gestures without success. I wonder if there is another driver out there that might work better?

    VERY annoying regardless

Ah, another happy ending between Asus and Windows 8. :p

I think Asus will just have to update their software. Sorry to say I don't have any workarounds. I doubt a different driver will remedy the issue with SmartGestures, to be honest. :(

Actually I'm glad to hear that others have this problem too. ^^'
I have Windows 7 though... interesting that it occurs on windows 7 and 8.

Hello, I ve got a three month old ASUS Zenbook Ux31A with Windows8 64BIt, all new updates installed -- and experienced this problem last week for the first time. Booting helped, but not permanently, it reoccurred....

I also have this problem with my Asus S56C ultrabook. A reboot sorts it out. Very annoying though!!! Glad it's got a quick reboot.

Feel free to contact Asus regarding this. Chances are they have already received some flack, as it seems pretty prevalent.

This was happening to me, and I switched to the Elantech drivers and haven't had a problem since.

    I also have this problem.
I've got an Asus UX32A running windows 7, it mainly seems to disappear after coming out of sleep mode and a reboot fixes it

Add me to the list. It happens to me too and comes back after rebooting.

Additionally, Smart Gestures has the nice habit of doing what it wants. I can disable some annoying features and they may come back. When I open it to check, the features remain disabled theoretically, but I have to tick and untick to fix it.

Horrible software from Asus. I end up so irritated.

I also have the same problem in my S200E, seems that ASUS want to avoid recognize this problem, it is really unacceptable to reboot periodically.

Bad support to a company that want to be a reference in the market.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers - the same ones it finds automatically - and also turned my screensaver to just blank as the animated one was causing problems as well, and smart gesture has yet to disappear since.

Edit: Nevermind, still disappears after sleep when the battery is low.

    Guys,

I have an ASUS Vivobook (F202e-CT198) and am having the same problem but I found a better solution than a reboot everytime and it seems to be working for me. What I do is, when this happens, I go to the task manager, in the background processes, click on the ASUS smart gesture center and press "end task". It immediately starts the Smart gesture center normally. Though this is also not permanent btu better and faster dan a reboot.

Let me know if this helps.

My q550a looses it's touchpad settings every few days and all I need to do is reopen the smart gesture app and re apply the setting.

Ok guys just got my Asus F55A Laptop with windoes 8 and same issue here, solved it however.
All I did was uninstall all entries under Asus smart gesture in Add/Remove programs the redownload latest version from Asus website, then it still kept happening.

Then i located the file in the Program folder: C>Program Files(x86)>Asus>ASUS Smart Gesture>AsTPCenter>x64>AsusTPCenter

Made a shortcutr to it on my desktop and now whenever i boot and it doesnt show up i click the shortcut to lanuch it.

P.S.: x64 or x32 directory after AsTPCenter depending on your version.

    Hope this helps!

Definitely helped! I pinned it to my start menu so it's one button-press and one click away.

Hm, but gestures still work even if the tray icon is not there. At least on my laptop they do.

This is exactly the solution I came up with too. Lately I haven't been seeing this re-occur though... strange.

    ASUS 202E.
    SOLVED.

    I used the similar approach.
    dug down to
    ASUS Smart Gesture > win8 > AsusTPDrv >x64
click install , windows batch file.
    works for me.

annoying. but good luck to frustrated users.

    Hi there,

I have an ASUS Vivobook S200E and was wondering how you can open up the smart gesture software as I wish to disable some of the edge swipes on the trackpad. Fortunately the smart gestures are working for the most part. I have the smart gesture programmes under Program Files (X86) in the C drive, but they only run as a background process, does anyone have any idea how I can do this on my laptop -> ASUS Smart Gesture - YouTube

Try searching for it in the start screen (might be under Settings) or go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Asus\ and dig around for the x64 version of the .exe... I don't have my laptop in front of me but if you need the full path I can try looking tonight. Otherwise you can try installing the newest version from here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download ASUS Smart Gesture

It says Windows 8.1 32 bit but I'm using it on Windows 8 x64 with no problems.

I loved this solution! This week, my laptop ran updates and the shortcut has stopped working and when I try to find the smart gesture file to activate, I can't find it. Any ideas? It's upsetting that an ASUS update has led to a fine work around no longer working...

The touchpad also seems much more jumpy/sensitive since the update (although still not working as it should) which is frustrating, although that might just be in my mind ;-)

I have a quick solution. Make a new text document and enter this (without quotes) "Taskkill /IM AsusTPCenter.exe /F" Save this as something like Touchpad.bat (have to select "all files" under save as options) Make sure you include the .bat on the end. Place this somewhere convenient and double click it whenever the touchpad disappears (you will see a cmd window pop up for a fraction of a second) This will end the touchpad task and restart it automatically.
