Gotta love Asus and it's 2 year warranty for the w3v. It's the fastest RMA experience I've dealt with a company.
My w3v had a problem with the Audio Out/Headphone jack emitting alot of static even when there was no audio playing. I called Asus, setup the RMA and here's the timeline that followed:
Wednesday, June 28, 2006 (9:00am PST) - Sent the notebook by Overnight Fedex Priority Courier to the Tech Support Depot in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
Thursday, June 29, 2006 (10:00am EST) - W3V Arrived in Richmond Hill, Ontario Support Depot.
Thursday, June 29, 2006 (4:55pm EST) - W3V Audio Jack problem solved, notebook packaged and sent out by Fedex Overnight Priority Courier back to Vancouver, BC.
Friday, June 30, 2006 (10:am PST) - W3V arrived back to reunited with it's daddy![]()
That's a turnaround of at least a day (minus shipping) overall very pleased with Asus and I'm glad I got an Ensemble notebook that has this kind of support.
Kudos to Asus Tech Support! A+++ in my book!
P.S. They had to replace the motherboard on my w3v to get rid of the static noise in the headphone jack. I'd hate to think how much that would've cost![]()
Oh yeah, also it was fast because they had the part in stock. Still, I've had experiences where RMA's took more than 2 months for a part![]()
Now I can spend the long weekend surfing the NBR Asus forums on my Asushehehe

yeah i had the same experience with their RMA.. might have to do it again thou since the problem with my W3V's power button is creeping up again. Can I still buy the warranty extension after I got my laptop for so long?
-
u can only get the warranty up to 30 days after purchase.

... We basically won't sell the extended warranty at any other time than during the purchase of a notebook for a few good reasons..... First and foremost, the warranty card needs to be POSTMARKED no more than 15 days after the purchase date. When you consider someone buying a notebook on Friday and having it shipped out on Monday and getting it on Wednesday, they're already getting the notebook on the 6th day after the order (looking at worst case based on 2day shipping and an order that comes in later on a Friday).... but there are even others shipping ground, which in the same senerio, could land the notebook in the consumers hands more like 10 days after purchase! So when you consider the day you get the notebook is shot, and then you forget to fill out the warranty card for a day or two.. then you fill it out and forget to mail it...... you're looking at getting it out just in time as it is. That and the warranty needs to be purchased from the dealer you bought the notebook from because some dealers don't offer Asus' extended warranty package to start with..... I don't know how loose Asus is with having the return information postmarked no more than 15 days from purchase, but I wouldn't want to push it because they could deny you for not following simple instructions. I mean, you're paying for it right off the bat and if you don't send in the warranty card within a timely manner, you just waste close to $200..... It's not like you buy the warranty and that's the end all.... it does need to be filled out and sent directly to Asus.
I didn't mean get into such a boring topic - but I made the rush seem rather interesting, didn't I? -

you had a luck primetime. Almost they did fast and can finish a job for RMA as long as they have the parts in stock and a free time during a business time. If all the RMA is fast, many users will be happy about their service.

Question. How long do you guys think it would take to send a computer to Asus in Fremont, get it fixed, and have it sent back to someone living in the Los Angeles area?
Yea, I know some problems take longer to fix, but I'm just asking for the averages. I kinda wish Asus would have an onsite option. -
Well if primetime could get his lappy from Richmond Hill, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbio and back (~5,400 mi roundtrip**) with FEDEX overnight in three days you should easily get yours from Fremont, CA to Los Angeles, CA and back (~740mi roundtrip**) in less than a week. Of course this is a different service center in a different country, but I'd imagine the turnaround is comparable.

Sorry im not sure why i thought i read it on the asus site or something. I was under the assumption you could contact asus directly within 30 days of purchase. Thanks for correcting me.

Well, I guess I did luck out. Plus I paid for the shipping there so I could get the laptop to them fast.
If you ever do need to ship out your laptop, take out the battery (if the battery isn't the problem) as it adds alot of weight to the package. I took out the battery and the DVD-RW drive before I shipped it, it worked out to be 5 lbs for my w3v.
If they need to order parts from Taiwan, they said the RMA process should take about 2-3 weeks.
