Now if only they'd shove that 4860 into the U series.. then I could finally replace my F3SV :X.

I really like the look of the unlabeled keyboard even though it's not going to go to production like that... reminds me of a guitar with no fret markers. Very cool "in a weird, nerd-type way" indeed. I don't like chicklet keyboards though, I really don't like that ASUS is going with them more on the new models.

Lots of cool stuff coming out of CeBIT tho, especially from ASUS. I'm not sure they can overtake Acer, but they're doing their best.

Overtake Acer of what? Except for sales department (since Asus dun sell cheap stuff), they are fine by quality, way fine than Acers.

I wouldn't trade quality for sales (they seldom come together, just incase you didn't notice), never ever in my life.

Why are you flaming a fellow ASUS user? I was responding to the OP, who said is ASUS back or what... yes, maybe they're on their way up, but they WILL NOT overtake Acer with these offerings for market share. I am NOT TALKING ABOUT QUALITY.

wait so, is the 4860 the 40nm version of the mobility 4870 ? and the 4830 the new mobility version of the mobility 4850?

    does that even make sense

the 4860 is the 40nm version of the desktop 4830 with some alterations.

    640sp, 128 bit memory, GDDR5.

Basically, They designed it so that memory bandwidth would be improved over the 256bit GDDR3 ATI4850. Also, the clocks are higher on the 4860 than 4850 because of the 40nm process. Less heat, less power.

The reason ATI can do that is because the chip for this mobile GPU is the same as the one coming out to replace the desktop 4830. I think it's codenamed the RV740 and some people have been calling it the 4750. That card has samples already out that have been bench marked.

Just like how Sony has much better laptop than Dell, but it will never overtake Dell in volume shipment. Those two markets are completely different.

I think ASUS is still trying to cut into Acer's market, as Acer is trying to cut into ASUS's.

I'm sorry if i sounded like on flame. But i was a bit furious when someone compared an Acer to an Asus. It's like apples to oranges. Again, sorry!

At least we're on the same page now... I only want to see ASUS gain more market share. But I don't see it happening, what with the Aspire One in every Wal Mart, etc. I have no real problem with Acer, I've used and worked on plenty of them, but I wouldn't buy one for myself. In fact my first Pentium PC was an AOpen, which was the whitebox type division of Acer, although they seem to only make components now. Anyways, I agree with you, it just looks like you misinterpreted what I said originally. Cheers :p

I hope Asus decide the release the K series in the UK. Unlike some of the previous laptops like G50Vt which is still is unavailable.

Yes, it's backlit, but there are no visible markings.

It says 'discrete keyboard' on the next pic in the gallery...

The laptop is off, hence the keyboard is not lit, therefore there are no markings.

OK, I'll stop teasing you now :p

My bad, the letters are black on black... :p

Anyone notice how the AC adapter plugs into the hinge in that pic I posted above? Sort of weird... are there any current models that have that?
