    Hello,

I bought an Asus U1F for my PA (Personal Assistant) for work and she has stupidly crammed the whole notebook full of junk and now the PC has lots of different problems.

It's currently running Vista Business and I'm wondering how do I wipe the hard drive clean and start again, I don't have the boot cds/oem cds anymore because she lost them (time to look for a new PA!).

Is there a way to wipe the hard drive clean and start from step one again?

    Thanks

I think you can do recovery by pressing F9 duriing booting

I don't know much about Vista but I looked in the Control Panel (backup and restore center) and it told me to press F8 while booting and then click repair windows, which should lead me to restoring it to how I bought it but it seems like it just boots up into windows normally?

    is there any other methods?

edit: sorry, F9 did do the trick thanks. Is it possible for me to install Windows XP on it now though?

You would need to find XP drivers for it though. Unfortunately, Asus does not provide them on their website. Sony does with their TZ series and it is also much more popular than the U1F, so lots of guides on Google on how to install XP on the TZ, which is one reason I considered going to Sony instead of Asus. :(

I am betting several of the TZs drivers will work on the U1F though, since both share some similar parts, like the same chipset and graphics for example.

I'm not too keen on installing XP if I don't know 100% if the TZ drivers will work for it though, I've had a look on google for tutorials on how to install XP on the U1F but had no luck, good someone give me a shining light?

I just got the notebook back from work so I don't even have the battery, external dvd drive or anything. Just the laptop itself and a charger, hopefully I can find all the accessories and CDs for it tomorrow at work.

    1) It is untrue that Asus doesn't provide XP drivers. I have installed windows XP on Asus U1F with Asus U1F XP drivers.

    2) Read my post about installing windows xp ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=133111)

    3) See the attachment as proof that there are Asus U1F XP drivers.

Oh, then that is great to hear. Sorry for my mistake. :)

Did they put up those drivers recently, because I did not see them last time I checked a few months back.

If you check my original thread. You'll see the following.

Notice that I carefully put a timestamp each time I edited my original post. So yeah, I have installed windows XP since 2007-06-22 (way back last august).

Right after installing Windows XP, don't install the Asus U1F drivers yet. Finish applying all the windows xp patches first. It will save you a lot of trouble.

One funny thing about the U1F is that the AC Adapter is lot less heavy than the 6 cell battery. I guess that if you know that you're destination has an electric connector (like at work), you can carry less weight by taking the ac adapter instead.

I'm not too fond of the mouse pad buttons. As mentioned in other reviews, the mouse pad buttons are tiny and not very responsive. Nevertheless, I still like this notebook a lot!
