Looks like the successor to the U1, same 11.1" WXGA LED backlit screen, very light weight. Has a 32gb SSD option (little outdated Asus considering what the Vaio TZs can pack).
Says it has 2 ram slots for up to 4gb of ram, overkill for an ultraportable but still impressive.
Darn, I was about to buy the U1E myself.

My next laptop will probably be one of those dinky things. But thats in 3 years
-
i think this computer just beat the XPS 1330 as the best looking laptop
the U2 is beautiful
stainless steel copper? omg!!! -

Cool! . .. Doubt I'd ever own anything like that, but cool, nonetheless . . .

Yes just noticed the announcement on different tech sites. Looks good spec wise. Only disappointment is the 1.8" 4200 RPM HDD, unless you go for the SSD of course.
So is this finally going to be your new ultraportable, rahulnirmal?
-
No 64GB SSD, broadband modem or extended battery? Hm, I'll pass! TZ already has all that!
Only available in s...t brown? Double pass!

whats it priced at?
it also looks like its an 11.1 inch computer screen in a 12.1 bezel size. -

That's your preference, but I'm sure many will find its Intel 965 chipset to be more attractive than the old one of the Vaio TZ. Other pros compared to the TZ, are support for 667MHz RAM, 2 RAM sockets and 4GB limit and 3 USB ports.
I agree. The same applies to the Vaio TZ, although it is slightly better on the TZ. -
Any details about pricing and release date from Asus yet?
-
Very nice looking. I'm sure this will be expensive. Unfortunately, anything without a dedicated graphics card is useless to me beyond basic computing tasks (web browsing, document authoring etc..). I can't justify $2000+ for something like that, when I can pick up an Eee for $400. Here's hoping that the U series continues, and that there will be a 14" with an 8600 or better! Still, for those that want single stylish laptop, this looks to be right up there with the sony models.
-
Very nice and sleek. 2.8lbs is very nice as well. -
Anyone heard any news on release date and pricing of U2 yet? Debating between this and Macbook Air
-
Hmm... looks nice but doesn't make me go "wow"
I still like the styling on my V6 better (or the m1330, or the high-end Sony-s).
hitekalex, if you want the smallest computer possible get the macbook air. If you also want to plug some stuff into your computer eventually, don't get a macbook air.

thinnest computer, at least...

wahts the diff b/w the U1, U2, etc. I haven't looked in depth but they look the same to me. Sorry if this is a retarted question but I can't see the diff.
-
Mainly the screen size (which also lead to being able to fit less or more powerful components into the chassis). Plus some styling, check pictures for that.
Indeed, this is more precise than my statement.
-
does anyone know when the u2e is going to be available?
-
Isn't this lighter than the MBA?
Moreover, it has a zillion more ports, and similar resolution. -
lighter, more features, and a smaller footprint. the airbook touch is almost the size of the macbook pro in 2 dimensions.
-
does it come with Bono?
-
Hey!
I want to connect my LG Flatron l246wh to the Asus U2. Is this possible? Is the graphic card going to support that (1920x1200)? Is there an adapter from mini-dvi to dvi included?
Is it possible to somehow change the hard disk to a faster one? 4200rpm is extremely slow.
off-topic: I really like the small and black design of this notebook. Is there an alternative with a faster harddisk. (better graphic card perhaps?)
Thanks in advance -
The main difference is U2 has optical drive :
-
Found lots of nice pics of it on this Russian page.

I'm impressed they fit in a VGA and mini-DVI video-output unlike other ultraportables. Though they went down to 34mm expresscard slot vs 54mm in the U1. Also removed the hard drive door from the bottom of it unlike the U1.

my guess is around the 2000$ range and will be released around june? Way too much money though, rather go for a U6 which is a little bigger and wiht 500$ in savings.

Hi there! I am new in the forum so it's a pleasure to meat all of you. Sorry for my bad English but it's isn't my native language. I think that U2e isn't the replacement for U1e because they are the apart from the internal CD. The small differences are the "ICH8M" (which i don't know what it is
) ,the fact that its ram can be upgraded up to 4g , and the optional SSD. I don't think the screen is different, atleast that i hope so because i would like a new lap top not an old one
(actually U1e is only one month out there, why in the name of Good the want to change it?)
P.S: U2 is bigger http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/10428-ASUS-U2E-vs-ASUS-U1E-vs-Pack-Of-Playing-Cards -
That site looks really bad honsetly. Also, the U2 and the U1 are the same size screen I believe (or maybe it's 11.1 and 12.1). But either way, the U1 has been out for one year, and the U2 is designed to replace it.
