Hello all. I'm really excited about the prospect of the new U3 which has just about everything I could ask for in such a small package (except a 8700!). Looking at the Nvidia site, I notice that there are 3 varieties of 8400M

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8400M.html

Which of the three will the U3 have? I am /hoping/ that they pick the 8400 GT, because the performance is just so much better compared to the other two. It would be nice if they would put 256mb+ of memory on it, too.

    Anyone have speculation?

Can you link us to the site your computer is coming from? That might help me to help you. I know the cards without looking them up, and yes I hope you get the GT, but dont worry so much about the amount of memory on the card. I suspect an 8400m of any kind does not need more than 128MB, and I will tell you point blank there is NO way it is going to benifit from more than 256MB, if anyone tells you it will they are confused or on crack!

Another U3 fan here, I would assume it will be the 8400GS, following the m1330 and SZ6.

However, the 8400GT would be nice, considering you can turn it off so it won't be that much of a deal....maybe :p

No chance in hell of it getting a GT. I even doubt that it will get a GS. Probably just the base G model like the F9s and W7s. The U3 is a very thin computer, so higher performing cards will cause major heat problems. Even the much thicker 13" Asus models (W7s and S37s are 1.5" thick, way more than the U3) are getting the G, so I don't see anything more powerful coming for this one. Personally, I think its a stroke of genius that a dedicated graphics card was stuffed into it at all; most other companies would have left it at Intel GMA X3100.

Baddogboxer- Its my understanding the U3 isn't ready for prime time. My source here is from an article and picture post on these forums.

I was hoping that the ULV processor and omission of a optical drive would be enough to enable a better graphics card. While its nice to have the X3100 for power saving, as Coriolis said, you can turn off a GPU so maybe they will be more lenient with it? I have a W3V currently, and I really like hitting that sweet spot between performance and style. Seems that the U3 is the only really stylish looking Asus coming out (materials wise, not to mention the hinge design!)

I hope we'll get more info soon! Thanks everyone!

Based on that first look in the reviews area, the U3 seems to be the platform on which Dell made the XPS 1330.

Really? I do see some similarities, but isn't the hinge design different? And the incorporation of an optical drive? I think the Dell uses a standard C2D, but the Asus is shooting for an ULV? Maybe I'm completely wrong about this though...

Rumours are that ASUS is the one that produces the m1330 themselves, they won a multi million dollar contract with Dell for a thin and light notebook late last year.
