So a couple of days ago the fan on my U30JC started going full blast for no reason. I shut the computer down for a while thinking it might have simply overheated (I had been using it pretty extensively for a number of weeks with little or no down time.)
As soon as I turned it back on (many hours later) the fans whirred right back up again.
The fans start with the BIOS (I checked by going into my BIOS settings, and there they went), so it can't be a software issue, though they tend to start at a random time (sometimes before windows, sometimes with it, sometimes when I am logging in).
I updated to BIOS 215, same problem.
I tried downloading speedfan and some other manual controllers to see if it were possible to control the fans (it's not,) but what I found was more upsetting. One of my temp probes (Temp1 in Speedfan) is reading 89C constantly! Feeling the air from the exhaust, and the top and bottom of the notebook, there is no way that there is a component operating at 89C in there. I used to have a notebook that ran at that temperature and you could easily tell, and it was much thicker and had better insulation than the U30JC.
It is also obviously an error as the temperature never changes. Full load, idle, vertical orientation, covering the fan entirely (don't try this at home) it reads 89C without budging.
Is there a way to disable this sensor or modify its output? How could something like this happen? Am I just going to have to RMA this?

Try Everest. It is more accurate in temp measurements. If it is relly the probe, you need to RMA it.
There was another guy in this forum who was complaining about the vice versa. His laptop was reporting very low temps and the fan was running at the slowest speed although the outer case was almost melting.

Everest isn't free anymore, it is this big bloated AIDA crap now, and unless you pay for it, you don't get to use all of your sensors.
Also, in speedfan and core temp (I actually find core temp to be the most accurate) I get all of my cores and GPU around 33C, and this one errant "Temp1" at 89.
Ridiculous. -
Is there any way the heatsink might have come out of contact with a component? Just a suggestion, though a constant 89C is very odd.

I´m having the same problem with the same laptop (asus U30JC i3-350). The fan on my U30JC started going full blast for no reason since the moment I bought it. The only solution i've found is to hibernate the laptop and restart again. Did you manage to a solution for this? Please let me know. I´m a little desperate.

Sometimes the sensor can be stuck by a hardware or software bug in the EC, and resetting to defaults in the BIOS or pulling the AC + battery for 30 seconds will do the trick.
If it's constantly reading 89C even after that, your sensor could very well be stuck. You can try messing with a utility like "RW everything" (I'm not sure of any specifics for your model) to force the fan to a certain speed. Otherwise it would need a mobo replacement if the sensor is really dead. -
Have you been able to fix this issue? i face the same issue with my asus n71jv notebook. already reinstalled windows, set BIOS to defaults and replaced the thermal paste. Nothing worked
