Has anyone heard any news about these? They were supposed to be coming out in August but I haven't heard anything about them all month!

Asus did post this video at the beginning of July. Since then -- nada.

Is anyone else interested in these?

Well, the U35JC doesn't come with an optical drive, so I think they're the same thing. The picture in that article is actually of the U33/43 Bamboo series. But otherwise, all of the specifications mentioned in the article describe the U35/45JC.

So all these stories referring to an Asus 14-inch laptop without an optical drive coming out in August aren't true?

These are supposed to be ultrathins. I was under the impression the JC version is not an ultrathin. I have to say I'm a little disappointed.

They are thin and lights, not ultrathins (An ultrathin would be the Macbook Air or the Dell Adamo, no?). The JC in their model name reflects what processor is inside, and doesn't have to do with their thickness (i.e. they have the same form factor of the UL series and the U30JC was a bit of a misfit in the grand scheme of things). Like the UL series before them, the U35JC will not have an optical drive, but the U45Jc will. They are expected to ship in late August.
