    Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I bought my laptop about 3 months ago and I am having a difficult time figuring out how to reformat my laptop. I do NOT have a cd/dvd drive on this laptop, nor do I have an exernal cd/dvd drive. However, I do have a External Hard drive; is it possible to reformat using that? I can't figure out how to backup my Windows 7 onto anything...it keeps asking me to put in a blank DVD.

So, is it possible to reformat using a external drive?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

To format your drive, you need a copy of the restore disk or any windows 7 installation disk. You can use an external drive to install win 7, but I'd suggest you to use that to backup all your existing data and instead, use a USB thumb drive to install Win 7.

    So, to clarify,
    1. Back up file to your external hard drive.
    2. Copy win7 installation to a USB thumb drive, preferably with 4GB or more
    3. Make sure your USB/external devices is set as the top boot priority in your BIOS.
    4. Boot from USB thumb drive.

As you go through the installation process, Win7 will give you options as to what you want to do with your current hard drive. From there, you can format and perform a clean install.
