    Hi,

So I think the Asus U36 series is one of the best non-ultrabook portable laptops out there, with Sandy Bridge, a decent discrete graphics, and long battery life.

Amazon.com: ASUS U36SD-DH51 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories

However, will Asus ever put Ivy Bridge and/or SSD in that form factor (I know there's an SSD model called the U36-XA1, but it's impossible to find)? Has anyone tried replacing the stock HDD with an SSD, and which model did you buy/use?

i have the xa1 and the ssd is amazing. i dont see why you cant replace the stock hdd with any sdd, as long as its a mobile ssd. just gotta get a usb disk drive to install windows and your fine.

as for the ivy bridge, would be awesome if we could replace the processor ourselves, though i have no idea if asus soldered down the cpu or not. id love to see this machine running an ivy bridge cpu. im sure asus wont release a new version of the laptop with ivy bridge... seems as if their focus is on win8, touch, and ultrabooks.

i have the sandy bridge version of the u36 and i have swapped the hdd for an ssd. I even wrote a guide on how to do it on these forums. As for swapping the cpu, it is not possible. The cpu is unfortunately soldered to the board.
