Hello.
My first post here. I'm sorry for any miss spellings, if so.
I got my Asus U36SD today. I ordered one with a crappy hdd (500GB 5400rpm) + a seagate hybrid disk to to replace the crappy one, because this was allot cheaper.
U36SD is not built to replace a hdd. You have to screw up allot of screws, even 4 invisible ones under each rubber pad. This allows you to lift of the keyboard. But here is where the "fail" starts. Not only do you rip of your warranty (that wasn't the problem), but to change the hdd you have to lift away the keyboard to an extent that you will unplug a very short flat wide little cable from a very narrow place. I have sort of got it back inside, but apparently not enough, so now my keyboard doesn't work![]()
The cable is very similar to this pic, but very unhandy positioned.

For those with the same plan as me, maybe to put in an ssd or somthing, let this be a warning!
Anyone got a suggestion on what to do? What would you think the price would be to send it back to asus, and think they would be able to fix it?

I don't know if this will specifically help you, but it will help new users wishing to install an ssd assuming the casing of the u36sd are the same as the u36jc.

how does it void the warranty?
-
Thank you. The keyboard cable became insertable when I opned the little lid to the RAM, so then this isn't a problem after all.
I got the cable in but neither the mouse pad, mouse buttons or the keyboard still wont work. So know my problem is unknown. Hopefully Asus will have a solution when I call tomorrow.
Just thought the warranty would break by opening and changing the hardware. It doesn't? -
Nope chaning ur hard drive doesn't void the warranty. and or memory.
If you removed any warranty stickers maybe but no.
did you put the cable in the right way? try flipping it around -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Asus' policy on HDD and warranty coverage depends on whether you have to disassemble the unit in the process. While drive replacement is permitted, if you break something in the process of disassembly, VOID.
However, depending on the unit model, if you have to break and/or remove any warranty stickers then it is *absolutely* void. -
i agree it sucks that full disassembly is required, but i had no issues replacing my HDD for a SSD.. in fact i did this within 1 hour of getting the computer.
I got it, ran a benchmark, tinkered for a bit and then swapped in a SSD. sub 20 sec boot times are freaking awesome.
if you having trouble with the key board then try to reinstall the ribbon again, i agree it is a pain, but not impossibe
