    Hello,

I own an Asus U36SG since february 2012, it has an unique USB 3.0 port on the right side. Since few months, this port seems to be buggy somehow, my USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 external hard disk or USB key have difficulties to be recognized. I have to try several times to plug/unplug to get it recognized. And during connection, any press on the cable or on the connector would cause disconnection and device not recognized.

Do you have similar problem ? I am afraid that it is a hardware problem (connection loose ?). Any advice ?

    Thank you.

Could be that the port needs to either be resoldered or replaced. Connectivity issues are usually hardware related. If it was only the "device not recognized" issue, then that in itself could be a host controller/driver malfunction.

I think what you're describing is simply a bad port, though. Is it under warranty still?

Thank you for your reply. I think it is a hardware problem (resolder). It is under warranty but I prefer not send to Asus due to repair time. I am thinking about using an USB 3.0 hub, and then all the plug/unplug will be on the hub, no more soliciting the unreliable main port.

That is definitely a good option. As long as you have one good, working port, the extension/hub will be a good quick fix. You shouldn't notice much - if any - hindrance in transfer speed, either (especially when connecting a USB 3.0 device).

Latest update on this problem. Even with external USB 3.0 hub, my external USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 hard disks are not recognized (not seen plugged by Windows 7-64).
By booting Windows 8, curiously no problem is found. So affter numerous tries, I found that this is not a hardware problem, but a software one! By upgrading the Fresco Logic USB 3.0 driver to latest 3.5.93 version, the problem seems to be fixed, and the hub could recognize 4 simultaneous USB 3.0 hard disks without problem. Note: for the hub, be careful to use the one with real USB 3.0, with 900mA per port.

Congrats! So do you still need to play around with the connection to get devices to be recognized? Or is it working flawlessly now?
