My u36jc came with a single slot 4GB ram that CPU-Z reports it is a pc3-10700 (667 Mhz). If I want to upgrade to maximum 8GB, which ram will work better, pc3-8500 or pc3-10700?

    Thanks.

Always keep the same speed RAM so pc3-10700 is what you want

I thought the laptop was pc3-8500, so I bought 2x4GB G.Skill pc3-8500 DDR3 ram from Newegg.com last week. Then I ran CPU-Z today and found this, so I am not sure which one is better/right choice.

PC3-10700 is better as its faster. As you mentioned it said 667mhz in cpu-z, since it DDR you double that so your actual speed is 1333mhz. pc3-8500 will show 533mhz and ends up being 1066mhz

Hi, I've just bought GEIL 16gb ram (2x8gb) pc3-10660 Cl=9-9-9-24 , 1333mhz. My u36JC reboots 3 times when I insert these modules (only the firs time I put them in) and windows restarts while loading, in loop. Another laptop (hp) with the same hm55 boots and everything is fine. The u36 bios sees the 16gb but as I try to load windows 7 it automatically reboots even in safe mode, any other live OSes from external DVD do the same and if I boot with a memtest usb stick I can see the window for 2-3 seconds but some "blue squares" are black, similar to when you have video card issues, then it reboots. But I know the laptop is ok, it is a ram problem. I have the latest bios, 206.

I put 16gb ram because I read on the web it was possible. Someone tried 16gb ram succesfully? thanks

The system board may not like that RAM manufacturer. OEMs of motherboards may have a QVL (qualified vendor list) that you can look for and refer to, to see which RAM manufacturer's are tested and known to work with the system board and BIOS.

Did you try putting one old stick and one new stick in? If it works then its a timing issue of the ram and you could look with some with looser timings.

Hi, yes..I tried with no success, tried all the possible combinations putting 8-0, 0-8, 4-8 and 8-4. No way... If you installed 16gb could you tell me what ram model have you chosen? Thanks
