Has anyone heard/read anything regarding the build quality of the laptop?
Is it a metal lid with plastic everything else?
I can't really tell from the pics, I hope it's of solid construction, not like the u31sd...
-
what is wrong with the U31sd build quality ? i almost bought that instead of waiting on the u46sv
-
Assuming same chassis at the U46E
-Metal lid (very thin)
-Metal Palmrest/keyboard frame. Keys are plastic but when I tried them at bestbuy they have little-to-no flex
-Bottom is black plastic, solid
-Only flex area is near the optical drive, which is standard on most comps
Go to your local bestbuy/office depot, they'll have the U46E on display (no dGPU) -
look at notebookreview's review of it, they say the construction is very poor. lack of internal protection from twisting and flex.
from the videos it looks like the u46 is well built..hope it's worth the wait.
i'm in canada, i don't think we have u46e's in stock here.
i'm considering the lenovo y470, but been reading there's hinge problems which i do not want to deal with.
any idea if there's been problems with hinges on the u46e? -
I tested opening and closing the one at best buy and it was fine. Very little wobble when open if you 'flick' the screen.
Does futureshop have them? -
oh hey you're right!!! futureshop has them!
850 bucks tho haha. i'll def take a look at it.
from the reviews it seems pretty solid, now asus needs to start releasing the sv -
hmmm seems there's nothing in stock around me, so they prob don't have the demos
-
lol i was pretty iffy about the gold-ish colour...but looking at it in video it looks freaking sweet. more of a platinum then gold.
-
Could always try calling in and asking when they have more in stock.
Yeah in real life it definitely looks more silver/platinum than gold. I'm not 100% sure if the U46SV gets the same color or not but I don't see why it wouldn't -
It's not gold or platinum.
It is champagne color. -
>.< got annoying of all the waiting, called asus for notebook info section and asked fo release date of the u46sv, they say call ur retailer aka gentech >.< ... i wish i can smack some1 from asus
-
I think the only laptop that has "internal protection from twisting and flex" is Apple's MBA/MBP/MB, due to their unibody AL construction. For everybody else the construction is similar, if not the same.
-
still no sight of this machine in america
-
Gentech has confirmed that it won't be available until September.
-
OMGG link pleaseeeee
-
It'll be facing some competition from the LG P330 if they're around the same price range then
@dartz: it's probably through email with Ken Lee. You need to chill out, as there's nothing that can really be done now except wait. -
awwwwwww, that's a buzzkill!
-
i know there is not much can be done.... just envy those europe folks ...
-
those europe folks have it already!?!?!?!!?
-
yep. let's migrate to europe
-
LOL! so what's the freaking hold up?
i came very close to picking up a ul20ft a few times waiting for this
-
... i guess asus hate us americans ...... but how can the ul20ft even get in the arguement.. it is nothing close to the u46sv specs... it is like a rabbit and a chicken....
-
ya, but it's a much cheaper option, and ultraportable in a solid case
it's a nice machine in it's own right
-
how much should i expect to pay for this (after taxes) when it arrives in Canada?
-
i'm gonna say atleast 1k after taxes.
ATLEAST!
879 USD preorder with gentech
even tho CAD is stronger than the USD atm no way we're gonna get a better price than that! -
About the build quality, it felt really solid when playing around with a U46E at Bestbuy. The lid felt fantastic and so did the rest of the laptop. Didn't notice any flex.

Is it out yet???
