Yea U50V is lookin quite hawt. I'm eyeing the U series myself, probably the U20A (U50V's little, little brother). I love the seamless LCD bezel, that's just schweet!

Yeah I'm eying the U20 or U30. If they're affordable and light enough.

Gorgeous. First time I ever saw a slot-load drive on an ASUS. Would have liked it to be more powered but the looks are just marvelous for a 15".

I'm not seeing the slot loading drive... looks more like a very slim tray loading drive to me.

The page from the link indicate it's a UX50 series which has a slot-loading drive. If it's the U50, then it will have the tray loading drive.

Yes I did read the page, even google translated it, don't see anything about slot loading tho, maybe I just missed it... could you point it out to me?

Edit: Nevermind I found it... sorry :)

I had to go to a different site to find it, but you are right... it's slot loading:

Ok. Have to say it's a good-looking laptop without the power I would want in a 15". Anyway, when I first read the specs I knew I would not be buying one. :p

The model does look nice, and it's heartening to see Asus getting back to the style of the older U series.

But, that glossy palmrest is going to be a nightmare -- sweat, palm grease, and the worst kind of "fingerprint" magnet ever..... I think people are going to be whining about the appearance and having to clean the thing all the time.

Yes, if that glossy palmrest is anything like the Inspiron I have, it will be a nightmare for anybody with even the slightest sweat on their hands.

    Looks nice though.

lol never seen someone put so much effort into a computer photo.

Good looking, but forget the palmrest! The touchpad itself is shiny! That can't end well.

A glossy touchpad? Now the finger oils have a purpose. :p

I saw it today in person, GORGEOUS! That's a serious palmprint magnet though.

    Newegg has them:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220558

I am very interested, but cannot find even a single review, comments, anything on battery life, the sort of anemic processor, not a thing.

    Anybody else find anything?

As for the palm rests, the first thing I would do is cut and apply nice thin custom rests. The trackpad? That is a mirror, not a trackpad... and mice FTW anyhow.

Why would you want a slotloading drive? From my experience on my brother's mac they are nightmares. You cannot use the smaller sized CD/DVDs that come with random things and disks tend to get stuck in them.

Well, this machine is a sleek beauty, but for the 1400 price tag at newegg... one can get a machine 2 pounds heavier and about 300 pounds uglier that outperforms this little hottie by 1000 pounds of sheer lift power.

    Too bad.

Some machines are made for other things. It is vain possibly, but when I go to client meetings, I don't take my Sager, I don't take my Inspiron and I don't take my thinkpad (mainly because it's just old). I pinch somebodies macbook and take that.

I'd be happy to take one of these. As long as the fingerprints were polished off first.

First impressions and all that. No good turning up in a slick suit with an amazing demonstration & pitch if you end up pulling out a laptop that's big and noisy enough to run on steam power. OK, that's going overboard, but you get the picture.

I just saw they have the SU9400 (i think, dual core anyways) version of this at bestbuy now. It's about $500 more than the single core version they sell though. Pretty hefty upgrade, that dual core processor ><

There's probably some other differences too.

The normal price difference between SU3500 and SU9400 should be around $100-200.
