I had to return my u52f back to bestbuy because of a failing harddrive but the newest batch (purple sticker on box) of these laptops all appear to have a redish/pink tint on the screen compared to the older batch. (orange sticker on box) Has anyone been experiencing this with their bamboo laptops? Windows 7 is also detecting the display as a "Mobile PC Display", where my old laptop did see it as that. So i'm assuming that all their new laptops are going to have these crappy screens.
Since my warranty is over, what do you suggest i do? Will using a color correction program such as powerstrip fix this issue? Or should i RMA to ASUS, and if i do, how long could that possibly take? (i live in albany ny). Oh, and i',m referring to the u52f as the u52 because they look identical (minus bamboo) and on the box, it says it use the u53's motherboard.
-
is it really bad? If not I'd expect a simple correction in the color settings will take care of it.
-
Nothing i change fixes it. But when i turn the backlight off and compare colors, they look similar. Is it possible that my backlight has a pinkish/red tint to it causing this? -
Did you go into the Nvidia control panel and change the RGB settings?
-
Oh don't worry guys, problem totally solved. I updated my bios for the laptop and now it doesn't turn on. Now i don't have to worry about that red tint anymore!
Only problem is, it's out of the bestbuy warrenty! Ironic right? Now i'm stuck with a 750$ paperweight.
But i'm sure nobody will post any suggestions, you'll all probably just ignore my post on the only asus forum on the internet.
I also just read on the bios update thread that placing the update on the main harddrive results in a brick? Well that would explain alot. This laptop should still be covered under ASUS's 12 month notebook warranty right? -

There are ways to do a blind flash, there was a way to do this by holding CTRL+HOME on older systems, I have no idea if it works on newer machines with AMI BIOS. If you look in EBE's guide, there's a post mentioning some threads about recovering from a bad flash. You may be able to use afudos on a bootable CD-R or USB stick with the flash command in autoexec.bat.
If you haven't registered for your warranty, you should try to dig up your sales receipt, or call ASUS. They should be able to help with a bad BIOS flash, and even if you end up having to pay for it, it'll probably cost you less than using it as a paperweight. -

Oh. No if it won't turn on you'd have to have a ROM programmer/flasher, and that's not exactly the kind of thing people have lying around. You'd have to send it in to ASUS.
Of course make sure to press the reset button for 10+ seconds (if there is one, it's the small kind of recessed button you hit with a paperclip, some models have them). It might power on after that, might not though, sorry. -
Also, i don't understand why it's completely dead. Don't most failed flashes at least show the power light on the laptop? Or at least charge the battery? It's like my laptop is 100% dead and i've never seen something like this from just flashing the bios. -

A bad BIOS flash can cause any number of problems, the worst of which is obviously bricking the laptop. You should get in contact with ASUS support as soon as possible. Good luck! -

Before i RMA'd my laptop, there was clearly an issue with the screen tint. I mentioned it on the letter i added in the box and apparently they ignored it.
Here's a comparison with my desktop lcd and the laptop :
You can clearly see the annoyingly red tint (and messing with the colors does not fix it)
If asus wont fix it, what can i do? It's really tough to use this laptop right now.
Seriously never going to buy an ASUS laptop again...
Can anyone here help?.. -
Do you guys think if i RMA it that they will replace the screen/backlight?
I found out that my friends Dell Studio 15 has the same crappy AUO panel (while my roomate's studio 15 is perfect in color reproduction). Are there manuals for replacing the screen on the U30-U53 series? -

My U20A has a bit of a greenish tint, and I had to really tweak my color profile to get it right. It's fine now (as long as I don't lose my profile!).
If you send it back, make sure they understand the problem, since you already sent it in once.
I haven't seen a U53 disassembly manual on here... or any U series manual that I can remember offhand. -
And also, what did you use to tweak your color profile? -

I'm on Linux and I tweaked my intel graphics with xcalib:
Code:xcalib -green 1 0 96 -alter xcalib -red 1 0 99 -alter

Alright...i've been trying to fix it but this is still the result:
Here's another comparison :
It's the same image on both screens... -
