The best solution depends on your needs.

If you never do gaming, I strongly suggest the integrated graphics solution. That will give you better battery life. That is, only if you like white notebooks. :)

If you do occasional gaming and that is an important feature to you, get the S version with the dedicated GPU.

    That's it :)

Not going to play games on it definitely! Thank you for the tip. How about HSDPA? Dose the both laptop features cell functionality?

Thank you by the way, really appreciate it.

I don't know the answer to your question. It's worth mentioning that if you get the integrated-GPU version the heat is also going to be smaller => lower temps.

I have the U6S-A1, can I pop in T8300 processor to replace T7500?? since my sister laptop has slower processor and it is compatible with T7500, am gonna give her T7500 and buy a newer T8300. I know PM965 supports Penryn 45nm processor but dont know if the bios in Asus U6S version 204 supports T8300 or not?? Any1 knows??

    Hi!

I have a U6S and have noticed a strange thing..
Most of the time i run it on A/C power, but when i unplug the A/C or when i start it on battery the processor starts using 30-50% of it´s capacity.

It is all the processes together, not just one single, that start using a little more CPU.

Any one noticed the same thing? Why is this?

Realize that cpu replacement immediately makes the remainder of your 2-year Asus global warranty *null and void*. For only a 10-15% bump in cpu ability, that's not a good choice to me.

What probably happens is that the CPU downclocks to save power on battery; since there is less CPU power available in total, to run the same amount of processes more % of that power is required.

However. 30-50% is a bit too much even for a downclocked CPU, if the value is steady. I am aware of a problem with the U6 series (I believe) where the performance drops drastically on the 3-cell battery. Are you perhaps using the 3-cell battery?

    Thanks!
I have both 3-cell and 6(?)-cell and i now changed to the 6-cell and then unplugged the A/C and.. CPU runs stable at ~5%!!

Is there any more info about this problem with the 3-cell? Is it covered by guarantee?

You may find more information in this owner lounge thread, or else by searching through the forums for "U6 3 cell problem" or something similar. AFAIK there is no solution to this, and replacing the battery will just lead to the same problem. It's either a BIOS bug or else some true power limitations of the 3cell battery.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Since you've had your U6S for a year, have you tried cleaning the fan and heat grill? Dust accumulated on the fan blades can cause the fan to spin at an irregular angle which may be the cause for the obnoxious noise.

Agreed, try blowing out the dust inside the heatsink and fan. My u6s was running so hot last month and irregular. I dunno if it's a design thing but I think these u6s don't have the best cooling of laptops.

Remove the bottom cover first before blowing. For me the most effective way was blowing throw the side where the heat comes out.
