Ok so the new Asus U6V Montevina is looking like a great buy especially when they offer so much with it. However I was just wondering what gfx is in it. Some websites I see 9400M and others I see the 9300M? Do some people have the notebook with the faster gfx or is that just a typo? Also some places say the screen is LED and others don't. I can't seem to figure out how the laptop is actually supposed to be which has deterred me from ordering yet. Does it ship with a lot of different configurations or can I get a Asus U6V in black(does it come in black even?) with 4 gigs of ram, 7200 rpm HD, and LED screen with the 9400M?

9300 and 9400 is the same. Nvidia renamed the 9400 to 9300 if I recall.

    1. screen is LED.

    2. all ship with same configuration for your geographic region, i.e. all North American U6v's are identical, but may be different from the European U6v.

    3. Dark brown with tiny blue flecks in the lid, if I recall correctly; no black.

    4. You can upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but the system will only utilize ~3.2 GB unless you go back and install Vista 64b.

    5. if you truly can't live with HDD it ships with, I recommend upgrading to a 320GB 5400rpm over a 7200 hdd, as you get nearly identical performance with a much larger capacity, for much less money.

It's really a 9300m. The 9400m is a typo although the U6V has just a slightly higher clocked 9300m (not enough to make a difference IMO) according to a post made somewhere in this forum.

The real 9400m is supposed to be 128-bit and should be significantly faster than the 9300m when I looked at the specifications. Unfortunately, the 3dmark06 scores show that the U6V has just a slightly higher score than the U6Sg-A1 which definitely features a 9300m.
