Man,I went to the besybuy and saw the UX50V for only $699.99sitting right on the shelf.it looks very good and kinda sleek.Hopefully it will comes soon!! U80V!!
-
Question - I have been shopping for a new laptop and the u80v looks just plain perfect for me (as it does to many other people I see) ... I have to wait at least a month to save up money anyway, so I'm willing to wait until they finally release it in the US.
Price check - I see numbers like base model $899 being thrown around. I can't spend over $1000 on a laptop, but I was planning on just going with the base model (usually the base config is fine for me and I upgrade ram, harddrive, etc later). What are the chances that this machine will actually come out with a price like that? Slim to none? Can't find much information on that... -

But as of right now the cheapest you can get the U80V with a T6500 CPU is mid $1000 which is slightly out of the budget. We will have to wait and see what happens to the price when the US retailers get them. I suspect they could go for $950. -
I chatted with this dude in bestbuy, and he checks out the future release for me,and he could not find U80V, or just U80.but I dont know,i might be wrong. -
whats the difference between U80V and U80A????
-
The U80A from what I saw was a best buy assigned model. The A comes with the Intel GM 4500 GFX not the nicer ATi 4570 card.
-
isnt the one that best buy carries the U81???
-
and someone, anyone with info regarding when this laptop is hittin the markets plz plz plz post.

Sorry guys, but I caved and bought the Sony Vaio SR
Good luck to all of you eagerly waiting for this beauty to come out. I'm gonna go cry in the corner, lamenting the loss of $200 extra. Lol. -
man. IDK. i think we might see this in august. i doubt in july. and im sayin "might" because i personally have doubts that it wont be in august either.
lets call asus and tell em' to eat our $*!^ and drink our *!55 -
u80v is very quickly being forgotten..

I'm jumping ship to the sony sr490. It seems to have better games performance too, even though i wanted a 14" laptop. It's got similar features and stuff. I can't wait any longer.
-
alright boys. im doing my review as we speak. This is by far the sexiest thing i have ever bought
-
I am so turned on right now. I have never been so impressed with a product in my life. Ive had it for almost a week with not using it cuz i was at my cottage. So give me a few while i run tests and benchmarks and get some photos.
-
sorrix my man there you are
please play devil's advocate before i jumpship and order the sony like everyone else D: -
Dude, im just setting it all up right now. But seriously I'M impressed. Packaging was so premium, Bag is nice, cute little mouse, laptop is extremely sleek and sexy. I took some pictures i will upload them when i post the full review, after i finish setting it up and testing it.
Dont jump ship. -
i dunno man. that sr 430 is very. very appealing. p8700, 64-bit vista, 320 (7200 rpm), gddr3 vram.. for 1182 usd? that's only 100 dollars more than the u80v.
your review better be spectacular =P -
lol it will be, downloading 3dmark right now.
-
Looks like CNET Australia just posted a video review of the U80v - though it is only a highlight - it doesn't go very in depth: http://www.cnet.com.au/asus-u80v_video-339297553.htm
-
but why wont they wana make the release date known?? its so frustrating. my classes start next month and i cant wait any longer. u know how when u have to go #1 real bad, so bad that it hurts and tiny bits are shooting out, thats where im at.
lenovo im lookin at u. -
yea im kinda surprised its not in the states yet. If you really want it, order it from canadian reseller. a bunch have it. even www.ncix.com
-
They probably are not sure they can meet demand. With the world-wide recession, things are slowing down. Maybe they are having trouble with their supply-chain. Some of their suppliers might be going under. Who knows.
-
argh this is making my decision so hard.
-
Just buy what you need when you need it. All of these laptops will seem lame in 6 months anyway. The reality is they are all fine. It is too easy to get all caught up in the specs and details.
Don't worry. Be happy. -
that was probably the most insightful thing i've heard in a while. thank you lol
i dunno i guess for me it all comes down to bang for the buck. which sony wins out atm, but it's also more of a hassle to get.. -
lol, poor you. Are you able to get a U80v ?
-
hey sorrix, how the touch pad, scrolling, feel, and accuracy like??
-
yea so far so good. The touch pads surface is very nice, Very soft smooth feel to it. The multi touch features are pretty neat to. I'll get into to it all in my review for tmw, heading to bed in a min.
-
I think I will wait for the Asus instead of getting a Sony Vaio SR
1. Bigger screen - 14.1 vs 13.3 will make playing games a little more comfortable
2. Battery Life
3. Looks - Don't get me wrong the Vaio looks great but the Asus is SEXY
4. Nice touches - Mousepad, backlit keyboard, free mouse+bag
5. Price - $970 way beats the Sony
6. Warranty - Accidental + International
Pity Amazon does not say when the item will be released. But this is very promising and I can hardly wait.
I went from looking at the Asus G series last year Christmas to Lenovo Y450 to now the U80. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
The only thing that the SR has over this is the GPU. The 4570 DDR3 is a little monster. But for elegance this is the way to go.
-
Wow Amazon started shipping these but at the time of this posting there is only 1 left

review is up

how do i imbed the images? -
whereas for the sony and for me to get all the goodies and good price, i'd have to have a family friend order it for me because all the deals and rebates are only available for US residents. and THEN i'd have to have him ship it all over to canada. and then there's the issue of whether or not customs will be ***** about it.. -
amazon is sellin the u80 so does this mean that it is released in the US??
-
one would assume

hey guys....i've started to look for a new laptop, and I have taken heavy interest in the Vaio SR-Series and this Asus U80V. One thing I was wondering is if the HD4570 is capable of running GTA IV? Even if this does, I know it would involve all settings on low. Im kind of used to it, as I've been using integrated graphics solutions and this would be my first step up to a discrete solution (sad, I know). I have only been playing HL2 and CS:S on my PC so a discrete solution wasnt really necessary.
Putting that aside, is the graphics solution in the U80 capable of running GTA IV or even any current gen games in at least low details with 35+fps? -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Almost $1k for the U80V at Amazon...I'll wait for prices to come down.
-
When do you think it will hit newegg's "shelves?"
-
-
DO you guys think the sr490's Gddr3 4570 will be better than the U80V's?
-
Yes, the DDR3 will give a better performance. I won't quote numbers, since I can't remember them exactly, but there is a performance boost when using DDR3 compared to DDR2. (Actually, I think it's been discussed in this thread before! I can't remember. Good luck finding it! =])
-
Yeah there's a noticeable advantage to GDDR3 vs DDR2 in this case since GDDR3 is what allowed the HD4570 in the Studio 15 and the Vaio SR to perform well despite their 64bit bus. Idk about real life benchmarks but there's nearly a 800-1000 3dmark06 difference between a DDR2 and GDDR3 HD4570.
-
I was wondering if the T6500 is more than enough for games? I read that generally, it is the GPUs that limit a PC's gaming power because the CPU can usually render more FPS than the GPU can. If this is the case for the T6500, then is a faster CPU not needed?
What instances would a faster CPU be advantageous? Video editing? Photoshop? -
well for photoshop, CS4 is the only version that takes advantage of the GPU to do rendering. Video editing uses both the CPU and GPU. I guess the saying, "your only as strong as your weakest link" applies here.
The HD4570 isnt the best gaming card on the market, so your really not going to have to worry about your cpu bottlenecking your system -
I hope it'll be on TigerDirect for the big Bing cashback ^_^

I get tax on Tiger Direct : ( Stupid IL.
