Obviously no matter if they are the same size, the more powerful size GPU will use more power. Using your logic you could use a 4870 in a 13.3in notebook and not worry about power consumption.

So it conserves more power but it should work, and maybe we might see it in a thin/small laptop, hopefully the thermal budget is almost the same.
I really don't care about battery life, want more performance :p

ikas v, considering you already have a beast computer the u80 could be a good change or stick with the n80/n81

Just looking to get something a little easier to carry while on the road ;)
The N81 looks like a very good performer,I just can't get over how "blah" it looks, maybe it's me but it's almost a deal breaker.
And the U80 also looks like a winner, love the backlit keyboard but I just wish it had a better AMD GPU, the 4570 is pretty good, but I'm looking for something with a little more "ooomph" if you know what I'm saying.
Never had a computer with a AMD GPU,(yes I'm a AMD virgin) so I'm looking for the right one! :D

Nah, that brown colouring scheme is a deal breaker for me as well. Though I may just end up giving in.

I haven't had an AMD computer since my AMD Athlon 1400. But my old desktop uses an X1600 I think (outdated, I know).

Any clue as to which ones? I have seen the new U series laptops are backlit so I'm guessing the K series will also.

It should be all the current models. By year end, i suspect everything they make should have this option.

This is one gigantic fingerprint magnet. Don't they have another one that's white?

It's a shame that the U80 doesn't seem to have a real LED backlit key-keyboard, rather than their "discreet" version. I would like the individual keys to illuminate.

And yeah the 4570's 64bit bus doesn't thrill me either, but the keyboard and touchpad are heading in the right direction, otherwise it's a nice looking machine.

Was there any talk of Asus "ICE COOL" and how it works?

It seems as if Asus i also moving full time into the chiclet style keyboard first it was 1000HE now it seems like the whole U and UX notebooks have it.

Nah, I don't think the mainstream notebooks will get it. Just the Gaming laptops (probs starting after they introduce a new chassis) and Luxury laptops.

It appears the U and W series are the "Luxury" models, right? I like the addition of backlighting, but wish the chassis was made of something a little less glossy and higher quality. Asus should come out with a unibody aluminum design for their U series!

It'll be a while before Asus releases these new U series. There's a few more new models that will pop up before the U80.

Yes, please do! Any info and pics would be a great contribution :)

I'm sure people are still going to appreciate the U2 regardless if it's defective or not. It will give people a better idea of what it looks like and how it compares to the other new U series.

The U80 will have the HD4570 while the similar 14" K series be equipped with the HD4860 (better for gaming).

Probably not. All the battery life ratings any manufacture gives are overestimated.

Anyone know of an ETA for these laptops? The K-series has already appeared on the list of models on the Asus website, but the latest news on the U series seems to be this: http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=bpGXggq6Sk4k09ea

Anyone know further details regarding availability?

hmmm, so the u80 has an hdmi port but not the Kseries?
seems kinda strange.. especially since the Kseries is suppose to be more towards multimedia and gaming then the Useries.

might just end up getting a Useries.
(unless there more 14''-15.4'' laptops Asus plans to release during the summer..)

If it does use an HD4570 like the f6ve the performance should be the same aside from perhaps a difference in CPU or RAM for games which require those.
