Obviously no matter if they are the same size, the more powerful size GPU will use more power. Using your logic you could use a 4870 in a 13.3in notebook and not worry about power consumption.
-
So it conserves more power but it should work, and maybe we might see it in a thin/small laptop, hopefully the thermal budget is almost the same.
I really don't care about battery life, want more performance -
^well,some care about battery...
-
ikas v, considering you already have a beast computer the u80 could be a good change or stick with the n80/n81
-
Just looking to get something a little easier to carry while on the road
The N81 looks like a very good performer,I just can't get over how "blah" it looks, maybe it's me but it's almost a deal breaker.
And the U80 also looks like a winner, love the backlit keyboard but I just wish it had a better AMD GPU, the 4570 is pretty good, but I'm looking for something with a little more "ooomph" if you know what I'm saying.
Never had a computer with a AMD GPU,(yes I'm a AMD virgin) so I'm looking for the right one! -
I haven't had an AMD computer since my AMD Athlon 1400. But my old desktop uses an X1600 I think (outdated, I know). -
Falle4ngel we are so weak
and yes I'm thinking of buying one also......decisions,decisions -
David has told me that Asus are planning to release many backlit keybaord equipped laptops this year.
-
Any clue as to which ones? I have seen the new U series laptops are backlit so I'm guessing the K series will also.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
It should be all the current models. By year end, i suspect everything they make should have this option.
-
This is one gigantic fingerprint magnet. Don't they have another one that's white?
-
And yeah the 4570's 64bit bus doesn't thrill me either, but the keyboard and touchpad are heading in the right direction, otherwise it's a nice looking machine.
Was there any talk of Asus "ICE COOL" and how it works? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
It seems as if Asus i also moving full time into the chiclet style keyboard first it was 1000HE now it seems like the whole U and UX notebooks have it.
-
Nah, I don't think the mainstream notebooks will get it. Just the Gaming laptops (probs starting after they introduce a new chassis) and Luxury laptops.
-
Looks OK but the shiny fingerprint magnet surface definitely kills it for me...
Thanks for the hands-on BTW! -
It appears the U and W series are the "Luxury" models, right? I like the addition of backlighting, but wish the chassis was made of something a little less glossy and higher quality. Asus should come out with a unibody aluminum design for their U series!
-
Even though it's not really a review, all those pictures are highly informative, so:
Added to Info Booth and Owners' Lounges and Reviews Index, thanks! -
The U80A will have integrated GMA X4500 graphics and the U80V will have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 w/ 512 MB DDR2
-
im getting pretty anxious waiting for this to come out!
-
Same here, I'm dying to get this lappy.
-
btw guys,I still have photos and hands on material of asus s121 from CeBit and can post that if you want.
-
-
ok,I ll will post that tomorrow!also,I have pics of U20,but it was a defected unit,so i don't know whether should I post it or not.
-
I'm sure people are still going to appreciate the U2 regardless if it's defective or not. It will give people a better idea of what it looks like and how it compares to the other new U series. -
ok,then I ll just post pictures for it.
-
I look forward to that
-
Cool! but keep in mind that it was really defected- f.e. it had blank keys
-
-
ohh darn it. i was told it will come out around mayish- june?
-
any one have an idea when the U80 will be launched in AUSTRALIA (PERTH), just wondering, which is better for gaming, the U series or K series?
-
-
The 14" K series is going to have a AMD/ATI 4860!
Can't wait until that starts shipping, any idea will it have a Intel or AMD CPU? and which ones? -
-
Will the K series have backlit keyboards?
-
i asked if it would have a backlit keyboard but someone said it won't. sucks right?
-
i believe only the 15'' k-series would have the 4860
-
the pic says battery life is 6 hours. you think it will last that long?
-
-
Wish they integrated backlit keyboards in the W90 series
Then I'd buy one -
ohh darn it.
id just go for an n80 now but idk if i should. i really like the backlit keyboard. wonder if you can mod the n80 to have one lol -
lemme bump this up
any info on dates ? and what happened to Xirurg ? did he post reviews for s121, u20 or u50 somewhere ?
I'm grabin hp dv3 tomorrow with 2 month return policy, hopefully these will come out whithin those 2 months -
He just posted Hands On's as he was at CeBit (I think).
I don't think he'll get more access to them. -
Hey guys, how will u80 compare to new hp dv3t ? I got my gf dv3z but amd cpu is ridiculous 85c just while browsing, lmao and I will try bf2 and tf2 tomorrow to see how high will temps go.
So this is defeniatelly a return and I will either get new dv3t or u80 just how do they compare ?
dv3t specs: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...ory&v1=Ultra-Portable&series_name=dv3t_series -
Anyone know of an ETA for these laptops? The K-series has already appeared on the list of models on the Asus website, but the latest news on the U series seems to be this: http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=bpGXggq6Sk4k09ea
Anyone know further details regarding availability? -
http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/asus-bringing-1008ha-ux50-and-u80v-laptops-stateside-we-go-han/
Retail for u80 is apparantly $899, which sounds pretty good (if engadget is to be believed) -
hmmm, so the u80 has an hdmi port but not the Kseries?
seems kinda strange.. especially since the Kseries is suppose to be more towards multimedia and gaming then the Useries.
might just end up getting a Useries.
(unless there more 14''-15.4'' laptops Asus plans to release during the summer..) -
cmon u series release..
-
yea hope it is soon!
-
so the u80v uses the same gpu as f6ve? is there gonna be much difference between the two laptops' gaming performances?
-
If it does use an HD4570 like the f6ve the performance should be the same aside from perhaps a difference in CPU or RAM for games which require those.
Asus U80 Hands-on!
