for me, if it had the 4670 like the n81vp it'd be perfect lol. granted it would still have to keep up it's battery life =P

just looked through the polish review of the laptop and noticed something a bit strange. the windows experience graphics rating is a 4.9 which seems a bit low. i just saw an xps studio 13 which, according to notebookcheck has a worse gcard (9500M) have a score of 5.5.

    seen here too: http://www.binaryturf.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/windows-experience-index.png

is this normal? is the 9500 in fact a better card for gaming?

I can't wait for this notebook to come out. I imagine that it will probably be released sometime in July to match Lenovo's new offerings

The Windows index really isn't an accurate tool so I wouldn't base anything on that.

The HD4570 is in the U80V is a DDR2 so it should be less powerful than say the HD4570 in the Dell Studio 15 which is GDDR3.

Re: How long do asus laptops usually last?
I agree for the most part with the breakdown by letter, but to add some that others commented on-

V series- top build quality, should be = to IBM
S and U series- Asus' ultraportables, high build quality
W series- generally high build quality, with some exceptions
    M series- average-high build quality
    G series- average build quality
A and F series- low-average build quality, Asus' budget lines

    also to be noted:
Z series (includes S96J)- Asus' barebones, varied build quality
C series- new upgradeable barebones, unknown build quality

That's in Australian dollars. Also keep in mind that Australia's Asus notebooks tend to retail for quite a bit more due to import tax.

don't believe everything you see. first of all it's an australian site, so the currency may be different. second of all, they may not even have the unit at all in stock. so from what i learned in econ, because this laptop is in hig demand and isn't even really released yet, the price may be jacked up for those crazy enthusiasts who absolutely need the laptop in their hands before the rest of the world =P

Near the price I said it was ;) ~$999.

I am scouring the net trying to find a release date on the U80V, but the U20 will be available the 1st of next month. I am a little worried that since I cannot find the U80V it may not be released the same time. But I hope it will! I am saving towards it already.

    Ramen nooooooooooodles everyday!

Hey, I know that guy! ;) lol

Yes, the U series ought to be built very well, both due to their pedigree, which I mentioned in the post Sparky quoted, and due to the original poster's assertion that the build quality is top notch.

i highly doubt it'll go way beyond 1000. highest will be 1200. think about it, the n81vg is going for 999 USD atm and it's got better specs.

tcee- is right. the n81 has better specs and is 900 now after rebate. When it was first released i believe it was a bit more then 1000. The u20a is slightly under 1000 and it is an ultra portable. Given that price I think the u80 will deff be under 1000 as well. Also engadet said it was 899 and the person who started the thread said the rep at the stand said it would be under 1000.

You'll get the best results if you run them while the notebook is plugged in. You can run them when it's on battery power, but your results will probably be lower if you do.

yea overall seems like the person wasn't to impressed with it. I hope the "cheap plastic" won't be a problem.
Now this is making me look at the n81vg and vp as well as the 13.3 inch F6Ve-B1. Can anyone comment on the battery life for any of the 3 mentioned above?

crap, crappier, and crap. in that order =)

if you push it, the vg MIGHT last you 3 hours, that's if you turn everything down/low, the vp could push to 2 and a half, and the F6 lasts around 2 and a half as well, even with the stupid ugly 6-cell battery jutting out.

and to sorrix, if you find a retail store in the gta that sells the u80v, please pm me? i live up in richmond hill, and i have to go down to pacific mall to find asus notebooks lol. and even there they're just eee pcs. =(

Will do for sure. I been looken for a laptop for a couple of weeks now for school in the fall. So im hoping the U80v hits shelves somtime before Augest.

I was looking at the ASUS n81 and the F81, but i think the U80 is the sweet spot. So if i see it i'll let you know.

My budgets only 1000-1200 so i hope its not priced any higher then that.

    tcee- lmao well put?
Yea I am not diggin that 3 hours battery life. Imagine what it can be if it is under heavy use. The u80 when reviewed did 5 hours and 30 mins which is pretty sweet. I am hopping it comes out asap though because I need one before the end of july. I contacted a few resellers to see what they would say. From one I heard anytime from july-sept. From another i heard deff not for another 2-3 weeks because it is not even in there sku yet. Price wise I think it will not exceed 1200.

Wow that review was harsh! I was really liking the design of this notebook too. I'm surprised that reviewer hated it so much. I guess I'll wait for a more detailed and more objective rundown of the U80.

I'm hoping for a P series processor too.

Well I would take reviews with a grain of salt. Sure, the notebook may "feel" cheap but that doesn't mean it is. Even NBR's review of the f6ve said it felt cheap and lots of people are happy with their f6ve and I haven't heard any widespread horror stories about it.

As for the U80V, that review only seems to comment on looks(which are subjective) and the fact that plastic is used(which is the case for lots of notebooks :p).

The reviewer's malcontent with the display is a bit of a letdown, but other than that the U80V still strikes me as a good machine for now :D.

    We'll wait and see I guess :)
