I doubt this notebook is coming out in the next 2 weeks. I would figure by now someone would have something on it.

xoticpc - nothing but they do not have the U20 either
gentech - only have the U20
    Best Buy - nothing

I may end up getting the N81 but boy i do not like how it looks.

UX50 and U81a are now available at Best Buy. They have been castrated, no backlit keyboard or trackpad, no bluetooth, no gigabit ethernet or multi-touch trackpad. For some reason seems like a lot of new laptops are lacking bluetooth. Sony NW and Gateway NV don't have bluetooth, whats up with that?

Might be their way of seperating the premium models from the entry models?

Maybe. The U80 has a Best Buy version anyway. Main selling point of it is price.

I am also waiting for the u80.. well not waiting technically as i likely wouldnt buy a computer until after summer. It is currently the model I am most fond of!

I really liked the sony z, but it is just too expensive, then the lenovo u330 looked pretty cool, but troubles getting them in canada, and then the dell 14z looked cool too, but the u80 looks like it beats the pants off of all of them.

i used to have a dell 700m. It was a great little computer, it was so compact and easy to take anywhere.

    Does the u80 have a t9550 or the t6500? I've heard both.

If we're only getting the T6500 then I'll probably go get the G51 instead. That's a bit disappointing. the T9550 would be nice and a P series would have been excellent.

Yea i thought they'd use a p series since it uses minimum power. But the t6500 is pretty disappointing. You could always swap it out but itll be another 200-300 depending on which one. At least people like gentech give you options.

It's not worth the cost. Those are prices around 1300 USD + Shipping and duties.

I guess I'll wait and see what happens.

although the CPU is a little lacking in that setup im sure the price point will be very attractive while maintaining all the other features, unlike the best buy watered down POS

I'm also sure there will be other options coming with more powerful cpu.

man just went to bestbuy to check this out. thing is a bad boy and looks hot unless bestbuys version has a different case. It will be even better with the back lit keyboard and the touchpad.

I think the piece click is pretty nice too but I noticed that the left click was easier to press then the right click. Idk if asus made it like that on purpose or the left one already wore out because people used it.

well apparently it comes with a wireless mouse, so i'll probably be using that more often than the touchpad. the 1000he my dad owns has pretty stiff buttons that asus is known for too. of course after a while you'll get used to them but i still prefer to just tap the touchpad.

yea same tcee- i still prefer to use a mouse instead of the touch pad but i think the touch pad will look different on non bb versions. Imo if the buttons are stiffer it will last longer.

Greg you still get the 2 year warranty and 1 year accidental damage? It is global right?

" Finally, for those somewhere in the middle, Asus offers the $899 U80V, with a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 processor, Centrino 2 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and a 14-inch LED-backlit display (also 16-to-9). As with the UX50, this one has the backlit Chiclet keyboard and ambient-light sensor, plus a cool illuminated touch pad that lights up little white dots as you move your finger around the surface. You’ll also find a Super Hybrid Engine for up to 6 hours of battery life. Asus went the extra mile to include an extra-thin multiformat DVD burner. ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 graphics are onboard, along with 512MB of video memory." -http://computershopper.com/shoptalk/laptops/hands-on-with-asus-s-new-eee-pc-1008ha-seashell-ux50-and-u80v-notebooks

Maybe it will get the t9550 after all?

In my opinion that isn't a very objective review. We'll have to wait and see because from what I've heard and seen on the internet, the build quality isn't bad at all. I can't comment on the screen though. Keep in mind as well that the review was published June 9th, months before it even came out, which is very strange in my opinion. Anyway I really need this to come out soon. Btw greg, what country are you from?

    http://www.cendirect.com/main_en/tech_specs_NF5695944.html

I emailed them asking when they will have stock, below is what i got in response.

"Thank you for your interest in our products and services – The availability of the Asus U80V has not yet been announced by the manufacturer.

Sorry not to be able to help you more than that"

the only macbook thats 999 bucks is also made out of "cheap plastic". To have a comparable mac in terms of hardware specs you're gonna need to shell out about 2 grand. But hey you get the nifty aluminum body you love so much.

so i went to best buy to see the watered down version of the u80 they had. (regardless of version, built quality is still the same throughout)
the keyboard has some of the worst flex i've seen in laptops =\

maybe im being optimistic here but that may be because the demo version has hordes of people playing with it everyday and thus is put under substantial use. and of course, this is just me being optimistic lol
