    WITH
    4500HD graphics?

I think that's just a holder-page, since the new core i processors generally come with intel HD graphics on die.

Specifications say it doesn't have HDMI but on the pictures it shows an HDMI port.

this looks kinda thick, with an Intel GMA X graphics card, I'd rather get the 1215N with optimus instead.

If you're into gaming that makes sense, otherwise I'd get the ULV over the Atom.

I can't wait for the first reviews to come in. I quite liked the UL20A and would have kept it if it didn't have a keyboard panel that comes loose around the upper right edge which I understand is a common issue for the model. I also wouldn't mind softer touchpad buttons and matte surfaces, but that's less likely to happen :)

Looks like Amazon is taking preorders for the UL20FT now as well. Currently it's showing another store by default, but Amazon itself is listed as one of the sellers.

    It actually says: In Stock.
Only 1 left in stock--order soon.

I wonder if that's true though.

It's in stock from Mobile Advance for $670, but it shows that they only have one unit left so that's probably not going to last, if they have them at all. Amazon is listing shipment within "1-4 weeks" which is usually code for it'll get here when it gets here. They'll probably have them at around the same time as ExcaliberPC. I'm looking forward to the first reviews!

This article does state HDMI out. Not sure how reliable this information is.

edit: These guys seem to be a lot more adamant that the UL20FT has an HDMI port.

Well, since Amazon seems to have a few in stock (4 left right now) I jumped at the opportunity and ordered one. I'm rather excited to try it out! It's getting here on Thursday supposedly. Wednesday if I'm lucky since I asked for next day delivery.

I agree. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that in my haste to order a unit before they're all gone (ironically there's still 2 left) I didn't realize I was ordering the silver version. All I've been seeing so far were pictures of black UL20FTs :) Still, I just need something portable I can do some coding on, so looks aren't as important for me. And if the materials are the same as the UL20A's the silver version should show off fingerprints less. Either way I've been waiting to order from Amazon because I trust their return policy, so I can return it or exchange it if I'm unhappy with it for any reason.

I'll post my impressions when I get the laptop. I can measure it as well, but I doubt it'll be different from what's been stated everywhere so far: 11.8x8.4 inches, 3.3 pounds.

    Cheers, Nir

There seems to be a disagreement over whether the UL20FT features DDR3 or DDR2 memory. I seem to remember the original announcement many months ago from Asus' magazine said that the UL20FT will have DDR3. The Amazon product page also lists DDR3, although the product page at ExcaliberPC and most other announcements say DDR2. I guess I'll find out when I get it. Frankly I'm more at odds with the unit only coming with 2GB, and if Amazon is to be believed 2 sticks of 1GB each which probably means I'm gonna have to pay for the whole 4GB if I want to upgrade. Even the lower end 1830T comes with 3GB, is cheaper, and is arguably a much nicer laptop.

I received my UL20FT yesterday from Amazon (ordered overnight - I was the one who bumped the stock down to 2 units left :)). Drumroll please... it has HDMI out! It's on the left side, just like the pictures show. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I can confirm that the port's there. It would have been absolute product suicide to release a computer in August 2010 without an HDMI port. Let's be thankful the laptop's designers were not as incompetent as its specifications writers.

Bah, looks like Amazon messed up my delivery. I was wondering if you could say:

    a) Does the keyboard panel come loose at the top right when you press the F keys? That was a relatively common issue with the UL20A and the reason I returned mine.

    b) Is the material on the back lid glossy or matte? I can't quite tell from the pictures.

    c) How hard/easy are the mouse buttons to press?

    d) Less likely that you could answer at this point: Is the 2GB divided into two sticks as described in the Amazon product page technical specs?

    Any information apperciated! Thanks, Nir

    a) the keyboard panel comes loose at the top left more than the right, but i see what you mean. doesn't bother me though.

    b) the lid is brushed metal. The part by the edge is matte.

    c) the mouse buttons are impossible to press. this might be the thing that causes me to return this machine. otherwise it's pretty well built. but honestly, it's hard to use a computer if you can't press the mouse buttons. and i cannot press the mouse buttons. same as with all asuses. there is one long "button" that has two tiny spots to press for the left and right buttons and it is impossible to tell where in this long piece of plastic they are. furthermore, the f*cking button is RECESSED! how are you supposed to push it if it's UNDERNEATH the palm rest?

    d) i haven't opened it up, but i imagine it is, since that's what it says in the specs. why would they lie and tell me the laptop is worse than it really is?

    hope this helps

1080p mkv will run fine even on a SU3500 as long as you're using the right settings/player (MPC-HC). A Core i3 will have zero problems with it.

Does the touchpad not have rudimentary multi-touch capabilities -- so that you could make the buttons redundant by using a single-tap for left-click and a two-finger tap for right-click, etc?

Hmm, I really want a UL20, but they still only sell UL20A and not UL20FT here. It seems almost pointless now with the EEE 1215N around, and the 1218 supposedly coming.
Perhaps they will release a revision early next year... ? I like the design, and stronger CPU of these over the EEE.
