Thanks Jaya,
1. However from what i had read at various internet websites and also from the Press/News conference from Intel they said that with the "Calpella" Platform they are gonna reduce the Chip & Chipset size and hence the New Calpella Laptops are gonna be much more "Slimmer & Lighter" than the Montevina laptops...!!
2. So how come the new UL30 JT is coming in at the same weight of the older UL30 VT...??
Am i missing something here...??

-
Gotta keep me eyes open for when this comes out. The way Asus supply is if you dont preorder it within the first 5 mintues its available then youll be SOL for 1-2 months before more stock comes in.
-
The biggest factors for weight is battery, notebook physical structure, and heatsinks/heatpipes.
So think the battery and notebook physical structure are about the same. There's not much you can change there, other than put in less cells or make the notebook physically smaller.
Smaller chip and chipset usually translate to less heat output. But by now, the Intel mobile chips are pretty good with the heat. But since the UL30JT has a discrete graphics card, which are still hot as hell, so that is where most of the heatpipes and heatsinks are going towards.
So total weight change is likely to be negligible. -
AlinaB, I like the idea of an on/off switch for a backlit keyboard, that way if you just wanted battery longevity you could just switch it off and use as you need it. Seems like doing that would be a no brainer.
-
somebody tell this guy that we want a 335M GT in the JT.
-
Please no.
An ATI 5470 is way more efficient than the 335M GT.
Also supports DX 11.
Less powerful, but more efficient. Less heat, less power consume but still good power. -
I agree. email the guy. both a 335gt or a 5470 would be perfect.
-
Ugh... no ATI cards please. Never had anything but issues with their drivers.
-
I'm very interested by the UL30VT or the bamboo edition U33JT. Any release date has been published for these new laptops? Nothing? I'm in college and I started the winter session yesterday and let me tell you this is really hard without a laptop! But the improvements worth the wait
So if you have anything on the release date or pre-order date, please let me know !
Does anybody know if these models are even in production right now?
Thank you !

For myself ive been waiting for the ul30jt after waiting for the ul30vt to get in stock at amazon. after a few weeks i caved and bought a sony vaio s series from BB.
the Vaio S is a great laptop, but have a few annoyances that seem to be worth returning it (paying the 15% bs fee) and waiting for either the UL30jt or the alienware m11x.
so, at this point ill either be buying the UL30JT, or the Alienware m11x, whichever comes out first (seems like the alienware will win the race, but im hopeful for the asus cuz i would prefer the 13.3 and the i7 vs 11.6 + C2D) -
For me it's simple : Asus only. I never considerer this Alienware because battery life is my main preoccupation when buying my future laptop.
-
either works for me.
-
has there been any word on an ul30 with a core processor and just the integrated graphics, like a newer UL30 A2, but with core instead of c2d?
-
Kinda in the same boat, waiting for either the alienware m11x or the ul30JT.
-
Seeing that it's only $25 to add a backlit keyboard on a Dell Studio it would, would seem easy and cheap for Asus to integrate a switch (hard or software) on to the UL series to allow for the best possible notebook, the only thing missing would be a two button touchpad. I think AlinaB deserves some rep. for this idea.
-
well wouldent a backlit keyboard reqire at least a bit more space? mainly beacause they got to cram some led's in there along with a transfer medium, but i wont doubt its possible. can wait to see this guy, definately what i want to go for.

Hey guys,
Could anyone who has a Asus UL30 Vt confirm this...??
1. Can it play itunes and run about 25-30 tabs in firefox and run both of them without any lag...??
2. I currently use a Acer 5670 with Intel Core Duo T2300 1.6Mhz and 1gb ram and when i run itunes and 25-30 tabs i experience lag when i'm clicking through the tabs or going through itunes. Sometimes the sound skips for a second.
I need to buy a new laptop but i wanna be sure if the Intel Core 2 Duo in the SU7300 1.3Mhz in the Asus UL30VTcan run Itunes & 25-30 Tabs in firefox Smoothly...?!?
Thanks -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
If you want to know that, then why not post in the VT thread? This is for the JT which has a Core i7 620/640UM, which should do that with no problems. -
There's no way to answer this without know the details of what you're trying to do. Are the pages flash heavy? I can tell you right now 1GB of ram isn't going to help you at all. Beyond that, one can't say without having specifics on the usage.
-
The real question is....why would anyone have 25-30 tabs open?
-
So are there any rumors about a UL30A replacement similar to this UL30VT replacement?
-
Nope. I used to own a studio xps 13 with backlit. If you take the keyboard apart from the laptop, you will see that it is actually very thin.
-
Why in earths name would you ever need 25-30 tabs open?
-
1 google search, and many pronhub tabs.
-
Thats what I wanna know. Id rather save a few bucks cause I dont need a graphics card.
-
I think it was in th UL30vt thread, there was a link posted, where someone exchanged the keyboard with a backlit one from another Asus model (I think it was U30). The only problem was that it seems he had to tap the mainboard to power the LEDs. So this mod will be only for these who know what they are doing...

I'm gonna wait for the UL30JT, main reason is because it's a matte finish.
One of my friends has the UL50A, it was a laptop I recommended him to get, since he really needed a laptop at the time. He's really happy with his, but after seeing how finger prints show up like an eyesore on his laptop I couldn't live with myself in getting the UL30VT with the glossy finish for myself. No way in hell would I be able to stand it.
I had the G1S, and the G50VT so I never really had that issue before.
I can wait, they say it's gonna be about a month or two, which is fine by me. My birthday's in a month, so it'll be a perfect excuse for buying one for myself. Even if I have to wait til the end of winter would still be okay by me.
I just need something super mobile, that I can take to work, or anywhere just ready to go, with a good battery life and all that jazz with feeling like having a heavy weight in my bag. It'll mostly be use for my comic book database and for conventions, when I'm at them and travel to them.
Oh and yea I'm not really a fan of the silver version. If I wanted silver I probably would have gotten the MacBook Pro, but I've been a loyal Asus guy for years, and as far as I can see the Asus has the MacBook beat in battery life. Also everything I do is PC based anyways. -
so do you think the UL30JT can handle bad company 2 ? im guessing the i7 640m in turbo mode will allow it to run but what kinda graphics settings am i looking at from the 310m
Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Core 2 DUO @ 2 GHz
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version
Video Memory: 256 MB (NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT/ATI X1900)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD Rom Drive
anyone? -
The 310M is a weak card for this processor. I think you'll be able to run BC2 but I would guess at very low graphics settings. Recommended card is a 260 GTX/512. The 310M was advertised at the CES as a 1 GB card. We are all hoping that it is the 330M GT in reality. This would be a real coup and would run BC2 with no problem at decent graphics settings.
I7/330M GT and I will be in-line the day it is released. I7/335M GT and I'm selling my mom to get it.
Bronsky -
haha, wouldn't like a petition with an email actively sent to the asus's contact us department work best?
-
I don't care about the dedicated video card, as long as it is from the midrange cards, and as long as they implent the switchable function.
i7 is overkill,i5 is best.
Not to forget screen quality and build quality. -
HA, if they put an I7/335M GT in this, I'll be right there with ya.... not holding my breath though.
-
Microbytes Canada has put 3 new Asus models equipped with Core i5 CPUs.
http://www.microbytes.com/computer/ordinateur/index.php?cPath=1950000
2 K42 and 1 K52, but still nothing on UL30JT or U33JT
-
C'mon Asus, its February and nothing. How about some real news and a release date.
-
Seriously, I've saved up close to $500 in the past two weeks so I'm giving the JT two more weeks until I waste my money on gummy bears.
-
\ Say what? \\
-
no kidding. Considering only ONE website seemed to have ANY info on the UL30JT at ALL from CES.. makes me think that Asus is just testing the die-hard asus fans to see what they think.. they haven't announced ANYTHING about it, otherwise.
It is funny that they have matte palm rests now... but they still have yet to fix the single mouse button rocker that everyone hates, and possibly improving the screen / keyboard flex problem -
I could eat at least $500 worth of gummy bears.
-
According to this post, expect this notebook around Q2 2010.
-
Nah ... logically, if the K series is now released (which is a good strategy from Asus to release the versatile laptop line first), then the U series is going to be released in the next few weeks. Some say 4-8 weeks from the CES. CES was on January 7th to 10th, so next week it will make 4 weeks. I expect the U line before the second week of March (at worse), and if we are lucky, maybe next week !?
lol
One thing is sure: worth waiting for. -
I'm not sure if its been mentioned already, but has anyone weighed this laptop against the Alienware m11x? that thing sounds pretty good for only $799 also its got your 335M in it
-
If your primary function is mobile gaming, the m11x is probably best due to the better graphics card. However, if you are okay with less gaming ability and desire more portability, the m11x cannot beat the UL30JT's ~4 pounds and 10-12 hour battery life.
That's really why I want the UL30JT. Games are a nice afterthought for me. But getting netbook-like battery life with at least 3x the performance for an extra pound, that does it for me. -
I keep hearing people in this post call this an entry-level laptop and that is why it doesn't have a good screen and etc. If that is the case, can someone tell me which laptop is the most powerful 13.3" laptop with a discrete graphics card solution thus allowing a 10+ hours battery life and is one inch or less thick?
I am not too concern about the cost as long as it is below $3000. I am here because I couldn't find a more powerful laptop that fulfills these requirements. I would really appreciate it if someone can help me out because my current laptop just died and I really need to buy a replacement as soon as possible.
PS. I carry around my laptop a lot so I really can't imagine myself carrying a laptop any bigger than this. Thank you. -
That's the problem KVN! We can't either! You're going to have to compromise between mobility, and power. 1 inch or less others might be able to help you with, but if you want 10+ battery life, you'll need to wait for next next next generation technologies, or buy 2 extra batteries with your $3000 budget. I'm not teasing. It's really what I'd do in your shoe, more batteries for the mobile gaming needs.
Someone else may be able to help you out on the discreet power and size area, but you'd have to make a new thread on the "What notebook should I buy" section of this forum. -
Mx11 is only going to have a last gen Core 2 Duo ULV in it. Me thinks Ill pass on it until they put in a core i7 ulv, but when that happens Id go for the alienware hands down.
-
I think the Sony Vaio Z comes close but still not quite. The new remake of this series might work, but it's not out yet either.
-
I think the new Sony Vaio Z is suppose to come out late February. It was debuted at CES 2010 so if you search for that you should be able to find out more specs if you are interested. There are vids on youtube as well.
-
Okay, I did a little more research and this site says the updated Sony Z won't be out until after March 2010. I guess it depends on what you want and how long you want to wait. Here's the link to the article I read. It has some specs too.

Sorry, one last link about the new Sony Vaio Z from Sony itself.

What those Vaio Z specs fail to capture is that it really has the most brilliant screen in the industry. Simply awesome. If portability is your top concern with a performance a close second, and if price is waaaaaaay down there on the hierarchy of priorities, then I'd recommend the Z in a heartbeat.
