hi. i just got my ul30-vt and have tried the cpu overclock via power4gear hybrid.

running cpu-id, i noticed that the base cpu clock is 1066.6MHZ. and overclocks to 1300.

    is this normal?

i thought the base clock was 1.3ghz overclocking to 1.7ghz.

any info would be much appreciated.

    thanks!

do you have a screenshot of the cpuz? i think your speedstep may have downclocked your cpu when there's no load and that's what you see in cpuz

yes, that's the speedstep kicking in. stock fsb is 200mhz, so it's correctly overclocked by 33% giving a 266.6mhz. when you're computer has any load on it, the multiplier will go back to 6.5 from the 4 that you see right now.

6.5 x 266.6mhz = 1.73ghz, so you everything looks correct from that screenshot

    Hey guys,

Could anyone who has a Asus UL30 Vt confirm this...??

    1. Can it play itunes and run about 25-30 tabs in firefox and run both of them without any lag...??

    2. I currently use a Acer 5670 with Intel Core Duo T2300 1.6Mhz and 1gb ram and when i run itunes and 25-30 tabs i experience lag when i'm clicking through the tabs or going through itunes. Sometimes the sound skips for a second.

I need to buy a new laptop but i wanna be sure if the Intel Core 2 Duo in the SU7300 1.3Mhz in the Asus UL30VTcan run Itunes & 25-30 Tabs in firefox Smoothly...?!?

    Thanks

Keep in mind that if you have 1GB RAM currently and the UL30VT has 4GB, it will perform better just because of the extra RAM.

I agree that the lag in tabbing is probably due to swapping, i.e., not enough RAM.

If those tabs contain a lot of flash, the CPU will also work pretty hard at displaying all the flash clips. I don't know how the two CPUs compare, but there certainly is a clock-per-clock performance increase between the two series of CPUs.

On the other hand if flash is causing problems, just use NoScript to turn it off, which is a good idea anyway.

PS: Please don't multiple-post, you posted this question on several threads. Just post in one place and people will answer.

The asus will be plenty. Also if you throw in a 40GB Intel SSD and Win 7 that little notebook will fly with a Core 2 base chip around 1.7GHZ

My UL30Vt has different readings from evil_md.

    Under load (watching HD video)
    Core 1339mhz
    Multiplier 6.5
    Bus Speed 206Mhz
    Rated FSB 824Mhz

    Light use
    Core Speed 824MHz
    Multiplier 4
    Bus Speed 206Mhz
    Rated FSB 824MHz

So only the Core speed and multiplier changes and not the bus speed. Is this fine?

The speeds that you're getting mean that Turbo33 mode is disabled on your UL30VT which normally gets you 200MHz, but you have the Asus Easy Overclock at 3% for an additional 6MHz increase. Use Power4Gear Hybrid to enable Turbo mode and then restart. After restart, the bus speed should be 266MHz with the CPU at either 1066MHz or 1733MHz.
