I have been having trouble finding all the facts about it but I have been looking at the specs for this laptop and I'm wondering if it is actually going to be released. Comparing the original UL30 and UL30VT-X1, these are the rumored specs that I am interested in seeing in the UL30VT-A1

    - bluetooth
    - improved wireless card
    - 8 cell 5600mah/84whr battery
    - Windows 7 64 bit

So the question is...are the rumors true? Will this laptop Exist in the (near) future?

The X1 already has bluetooth, a better wireless card (compared to other models) and 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. The only differences will probably only be the battery (5600mAh) and color (silver).

Nothing has been confirmed since Asus just released the X1 and will wait awhile until announcing an A1 version. Looking at the other UL30 models, there's a pretty good chance an A1 will come out, but don't expect any official confirmation anytime soon.

Thanks for the reply, I think a lot of people are holding out for the Silver version.

My only observation is that the UL80Vt-A1 is the glossy black finish and not silver. However, since there isn't a UL80Vt-X1, it isn't a perfect parallel.

Any speculation about probability of the UL30Vt-A1 being released in conjunction with CES 2010?

Well, if we're speculating, let's just say anything we want to make ourselves feel better...lol

    I speculate that it'll come after CES 2010. :)

All joking aside, it's just a waiting game. I suggest you try reading the UL30VT discussion boards on Amazon since an actual ASUS rep replies to them. He'd be your best source for any strong evidence that an A1 version is in the works.

*edit* well there you go. Someone from Gentech told someone, who told another person that an A1 is coming...

    That would be fantastic.
Is this pure speculation or do you have something more to go on?
    What's your source?

EDIT: I just called Gentech. Nothing 'official' has been released, but they're expecting the Silver UL30Vt-A1 to start shipping "Mid January" as rfs830 has indicated above. No word on price or any guarantee on ship date. The representative I spoke with said they *should* know more by the end of December and hope to have the pre-order page up as soon as they receive confirmation from ASUS.

The ASUS rep on Amazon also confirmed the silver UL30Vt. It's not confirmed to be an A1, but it would be silly to release a silver UL30Vt-X1, so I'd guess that it's the A1 that's coming.

I'm looking forward to buying the crap out of this lappie! :D

    }:^)~

Well my point Soulsaber was that I was not sure if the ul30vt-a1 would come in either black or silver. I would like it to be black.

Now do you get the point.

What is the 'better' wireless card? an Intel card over something else?

Also, is this the upcoming model that still has the G210 switchable GFX?

Well, the Atheros card in the UL30A-A2 was having some problems with dropped connections, but this Intel card in the UL30VT hasn't seemed to have that problem.

And yes, this new model will have the switchable G210M. It should be identical in all ways to the UL30VT-X1, except with:
    Silver
    8-cell 5600mAh battery
    2-year warranty
    ~$850

I hope it is not silver - The last silver ASUS laptop I had (ASUS A8Js) chipped and wore all the silver paint off the edges in about 3 months - people would comment that my laptop looked like it was old, but it was only 3 months old. I would take a shiney black fingerprint magnet over the ASUS silver paint job any day.

That's just how silver laptops are all like. I used to have a silver HP, and, after about a year of use, you can see noticeable paint chipping. All laptops are like that.

For those of us that read many of these threads, it feels like spam because we see identical posts repeatedly. You would add more value if you changed the information in each post and adapt it more to the topic of discussion and the users involved. Also, with you promoting demand this way, wouldn't that work to delay any price drops?

I don't think so. Asus pretty much kept all the specs the same as the X1 except for the added GPU. AFAIK, the A1 is still using the CULV SU7300.

hopefully, the build quality of U30Jc will be better than the UL series since it is thicker.

Which wireless chip does the UL30VT use, the Atheros or the Intel?

It seems that the UL30VT-X1 uses Intel while the UL30VT-A1 uses Atheros.
