I am really liking the 15 inch Asus UL50 series, but I am a little concerned by the low processing power. How much will this low powered processor affect performance? I usually have a word document open, along with firefox which usually has 5-8 tabs open, itunes, and a project management program. I run all this at the same time. I also would like to watch a dvd on occasion. Will this be doable on a 1.3 ghz low voltage chip? Can you put a SSD in the UL also? Is there a website showing speed comps of all the processors?

Depends on what you use it for...

It sounds like the UL series can cope with this sort of usage, no problem.

Yes. I'm assuming you mean replace the main harddrive?

Possibly - I'm not sure. Look through the owners lounge for some benchmarks.

There is a [email protected] 2 Duo...Alvaible I assume that the GM45 chipset on your UL50 if VT-X1 would support it...also DDR3@1066mhz and 8 gigs maxx...my daughter's MSI wind Atom 1.6 single core processor can open...5x Internet Explorer and word at the same time...i'm sure the Core 2 Duo...will be at least 10x better performance...even though it's 300mhz...lower clocked..than the [email protected]..@533mhz and 512Kb L2 cache...also uses DDR2 memory at 667mhz max...although MSI wind U100 can [email protected]... I still think the UL7300 kick it's ...all year long....Dual Core...always win over Single....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In terms of the ULV processor, what if we start diving into things like audio encoding, or video encoding?

That would call for I-7's....or Core 2 Quad..if you want to make sure you won't be left behind!!!

ULV processor would only benefit for say on the road use..once on battery...it'll..show it's real potential of portability...tick tock tick tock..before it shuts off...other than that...it would be sad for anyone to use this system as any kind of DJ to video..editing...just not enough juice!!!!

The processor will be able to do all that. That's pretty much how I use my UL20 minus the project management program.
