i've just purchased an Inter 6200 wifi card, and waiting for it to be shipped, 1 thing weird is that i've never encoutered this wifi connection droppings before. Until my laptop bursted and i had to sent it in for warranty. After 3 months, i got it back and i have the wifi problem since.

    Dear all,

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. I had previously purchased a ul80jt and encountered all the wifi problems that everyone has had. Armed with this information, 8 months and multiple reinstallations later, I returned my asus to the repair centre in HK. I gave them a detailed history of what was going on and the URL for this thread. I got my machine back 2 working days later and they told me that they had changed the wireless module.

I am not entirely sure which model they gave me, but device manager tells me that the manufacturer is Azurewave and the driver is from Ralink tech.

I haven't had anymore wireless drops since I got my machine back. Unfortunately, it has not been all plain sailing, but that is on a different thread.

Hopefully, other owners can get their machines fixed this way. I am still pissed at asus for churning out laptops that don't work, but at least this problem is sorted.

For some reason my computer started freezing randomly again, and the problem persisted for a few days. I checked windows update and saw that a new Intel video driver was released in Feb. After installing it, no more crashes.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I would like to know if anyone know what the max ram is for it? Some places say 4gigs and some say 8gigs. So is it 4 gigs max total or 4 gigs per slot? Also I have had no problems with the wifi or gpus. I had the wifi issue but the most recent drivers that are not from asus fix it and I have never had a problem with installing the nvidia drives.

    Thanks

What does that mean? That's like saying apart from not having any tires, my car drives nice. I will never again purchase a laptop computer with conflicting parts

Hello fellow UL80JT owners. Gotten rid of your laptop yet?

Anyway, just wanted to update you on my laptop, which is working well Here's what's been happening since 2011.

    1. Upgrade to windows 8 - this was fantastic. Now a very quick machine and my previous problems with intel and nvidia graphics and IE have been dealt with automatically. Not quite sure what went on, but win8 downloaded the drivers and I've not had to change them.

    2. Power4gear hybrid did not have such a great time with win8, since the gadgets that were seen in vista and 7 are no longer available. This caused me problems with turbo 33, but I had already installed the ATK prog and so the turbo33 key still works, so not too much of a prob now.

    3. SSD + HDD. I replaced the existing HDD with an SSD and that gave instant results. Then I bought a HDD caddy for my DVD space, so I have both SSD and HDD. Best of both worlds.

    4. Maximum processor state - in the power profiles, you get to change the maximum CPU processor state. I have changed this so that when plugged in, it is 80% (had this up to 100% before, but didn't really notice much difference). This really helps with multi-tasking and opening various programs really flies. For my battery saving mode, I have this down to 3% to max battery life. Again, it's pretty good, but just not as 'instant'.

One question for my fellow UL80JT owners. Looking at the asus website, the maximum RAM is quoted as 4GB, but the crucial website says 8GB. I bought my machine in hong kong and the CPU is an i5, whereas I know in other places it is an i3. Has anyone had any experience with putting in 8GB and having it work?

My laptop works great now. Hope you all have had positive experiences (after the bad). Let me know of any other tweaks you found on the way to laptop happiness.

I have just upgraded to windows 8 too however I have been having some problems. First off my fn key combos don't work, and secondly my turbo33 won't work ether. What all did you install and what versions of them?

I have upgraded my UL80JT - A2(if that means anything special about it) to 8 gigs of ram and it works fine.

Here are the programs that I used:

    1. ATKPackage_WIN7_32_WIN7_64_z100004 - this is the ATK package I used to get the keyboard shortcuts to work.

    2. Power4GearHybrid_Win8_64_Z212 - This is the power4gearhybrid I am using. It doesn't have the turbo33 gadget, but since the turbo33 button works, I use that.

Let me know if these work.

Thanks for the info about the RAM. I'll go and check that out.

On another note, if anyone has changed their wifi card, can you let me know how you did it and if it is a difficult thing to do? Also, is there anything I need to be concerned about regarding antennas and which card do you think is best? I was leaning towards intel due to some of the previous posts.

I recently took my laptop to Singapore and it had difficulties connecting to my friend's wifi there. Which was odd and this has made me want to change it. Thanks.

I finally got it to work thanks :). I have not upgraded my wireless card but I have opened my laptop so I know where it is and how hard it is. You have to fully open the laptop but if you have opened a laptop before this laptop is actually quite nice to work on. It has two antennas so get a card with two antenna connectors on it.

    Hope that helps.

Just looking at the laptop, do I have to take apart the bottom if all I need to get access to is the keyboard? Just that I can see some inserts at the top of the keyboard where I think it will lift out.

On another note, after looking at various forums, it seems the card I need is the 6200 as I don't think the ul80jt has 3 antennae. But since it is a combined wifi plus Bluetooth module, does the ul80jt come with a separate Bluetooth module? Also, does anyone who has installed the 6200 know if it causes problems with the discrete NVidia gfx card?

Is it better to get the 6200 or the 6230?

    Thanks.

You have to fully disassemble the laptop, There is a metal shield under the keyboard blocking access to the card so you have to remove the top part of the laptop case to gain access to the card. If you want to check to see if yours is slightly different then mine you could just pop out the keyboard and see if you have access.

You are right about the laptop only having two antennas. The laptop has a dedicated Bluetooth module but if you wanted you could just remove it from the laptop and run a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card.

I think I have seen a post in this thread where someone installed the 6200 with no problems. Other then that I can't help as I still have the stock WiFi card as I hardly use WiFi so the problems don't really bother me much.
