Some details on the UX30 its really nice when i look at this notebook i get a MSI X340 vibe from it. Im happy though i was hoping the UX series would have a 13" or 12" and they did.

I looks very impressive. However, from what I've heard, the UX30 doesn't have a replaceable battery.
Also, from the pictures, there doesn't seem to be a mic plug (only a headphone plug). -

ALSO, from the pictures there doesnt seem to be a DVD drive....bummer(not that i use mine that much either)
-
Many of the 13" ultra portables don't seem to have DVD drives.
But, the lack of a replaceable battery is the real killer for me. -
Fair point not using the DVD drive that much, but still, I do use it enough to warrant having one. Annoying this doesn't include it. I'd gladly sacrifice a little in size for an inbuilt DVD. Non-replacable battery is bad.
-
Well, are you set on a 13"? Perhaps a 14" will better meet your needs? There are a tonne of them out there these days. And all of them generally have a DVD drive.
Then again, there are 13" laptops that do have DVD drives...and replaceable batteries.
Portability will obviously be your biggest question. -

Did anyone catch the sign saying 'long battery life above 4 hours'? It sounds like this model will have a 4-cell battery similar to the MSI X340.
I was hoping it'd at least come with a 6-cell to compete with the Acer Timeline (in terms of battery life). -
Its too bad these don't seem to have discrete graphics or more powerful Core2 processors.
The Sony Z series comes to mind as a 13" notebook with a discrete graphics card and a full on core 2 duo processor. -
yes, but the sony carries an extremely high price tag.
-
True, but a lot of that is the "Sony" name. They've always been more expensive than their competitors in any sort of electronics, even with equivalent specs. Admittedly, they do make more high end items than many other companies though.
-
Did anyone see any prices on the UX30 yet?

It's available from September for £999, as are the rest of the range save the U30. A very nice offering from Asus. -

WOW if i get one of these id want it in that combination
to bad about the Optical drive.....oh well its still livable. -
Hmmm, September is so far away... I wonder if this model will make it to NZ. Always hard to find the good Asus notebooks here :-(
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
It should, Most of Asus models got to NZ right?
-
We used to get most Asus models (a few years back when I got my W7J)... lately I've only been able to find EEE models or Asus's low end offerings...

Lid color's a bit bland for me, but I can't argue with an aluminum one.
-
Is it avaiable in USA ?
-
What ever happened to the 12in UX20?
-
I'm waiting eagerly for the rest of the U series. Anyone have data on an Aluminum one that has discrete graphics? At the moment it seems the U50 is the only model that contains both a full Core 2 (non ULV, slow proc) and discrete graphics, but it is also a plastic-built one.

Yes, that would be right. These U/UX series owners seem to really enjoy them.
