    Hi Everyone,

I have been the owner of the UX31 for around 4 weeks now, and I got sick of the fact that Asus decided to eat up so much of my HDD with rubbish, even though I had deleted as much bloatware as I could.

Im pretty confident at Windows installations, so I set about doing a full reinstall via the USB port. This ended up in disaster, but having contact Asus it turned out it was a suspect corrupt HDD.

Anyway, I have just brought back a replacement, and its got even more bloated then I previously had!!
A whole 48Gb has been eaten up, so from buying a 128Gb lappy, I end up with only 80Gb to play with!!!

I have got rid of loads of programs via control panel, but still only left with 84Gb.

Im some what worried about going down the fresh install route again, incase I end up with the HDD messing up again. So was wondering if anyone had had any joy with compete reinstall, and any recommendations.

Ideally I would like to get rid of the 9Gb Asus use up for recovery as well, combine the partitions, and install windows via USB with no Asus intervention

    Cheers

    Russ

    Hey Mobius 1,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Is there anything I should be aware of first?
Like I said I tried this before, and I keep reaching an error when I got to the drive selection to install on, "setup was unable to create a new system partition"

Was this cause of the possible fault with the HDD or something else I did wrong maybe

Rusty, so many of us formatted our HD over and over. It is a straight forward procedure. Just go ahead, follow the prompt, chose the right partition and click next. After you install , you will have to delete a folder called windows.old that keeps previous OS settings and such since your concern is space.
