Good Day all, I am new to the forum.

Got a Asus UX31 128GB SSD in New Zealand a few days ago. Sad to say I have a SanDisk u100 ssd. Good news on the other hand is that everything else seems to be working fine. Found that all the UX31's here have the Sandisk ssd's, UX31E-RY009V is the model number.

Do you guys recommend updating the BIOS or just leaving it if there's no problems?

So, is this the general consensus with the majority of the forum?

I would say that is a good idea. Don't fix something that is not broken.

    Hi guys,

I have 3 days left to deside if I want to return my UX31E with the slow Sandisk SSD.

Is the slow ssd really a major issue?

My only other option is to go for the Acer S3, as I can't get a refund and there is no option for a faster (Adata) SSD.

Since you can't get a refund, I would just keep it.

I had the Adata version but the touchpad SUCKED. I returned my for a refund and waiting for the new batch of ultrabooks coming out. (Lenovo u310, u410, Asus UX31 and Samung Series 9 gen 2).

The UX31 will not only come with the Elantec? touchpad. But I'm waiting to see what Samsung it coming out with.

Looks like Lenovo is dropping the ball on this one. They decided to go cheap.

Hi, a hint may be if you now the model name of the UX31E you ordered. Mine have the model name RY012V (with Sentelic touchpad and 128 GB ADATA SSD).

Another strange thing is that webhallen.se now sells the UX31E again, but with slightly different configurations. One i7 version with 256 GB SSD (called RY010V) and one i5 version with 128 GB SSD.

Don't update without being prepared for failure. My update to 210 bricked the laptop and it's off to RMA-land.

The model name is indeed UX31E-RY012V, so I take it it'll come with the faster of the two SSD's. Fantastic! Which one was the better touchpad though: Sentelic or Elantec? I'm not too worried about the trackpad, but it'd be a nice bonus to receive the better one since I still have to wait a week or so before receiving it.

Yeah, I also noticed that webhallen is now selling four (?) versions I think. I think it's a bit more expensive though (when compared with Dustin). but I'm too lazy to check right now. I'm paying around 8000 for mine with i7 and 128gb (9995 with tax though).

I did however get the elantec trackpad

Hi, can't explain what happened for df, but I have updated the BIOS to version 210 using the EasyFlash feature of the BIOS. No issues. I have not notised any functional differences from the 209 version though....

The verdict on this forum seems to be that the Elantec touchpad is better than the Sentelic. I havn't had any issues with the Sentelic one I have. It would be interesting if someone that have problems with their Sentelic could explain the use case where the touchpad doesn't behave as expected, then I could try on mine and see if I experience the same problem (and no, I havn't read all posts in this thread :).

Oh well, I don't really care: it's bound to be better than the trackpad on this HP G6 I'm currently borrowing. It's absolutely horrible! But to answer your question: from what I've gathered after browsing through the pages here, the problems seems to be a slight "lag" when moving the cursor and having the mouse occasionally jump to the corners.

No lag on mine, and I have never notised that the mouse jump to corners. During the month I have had mine, the mouse pointer has "frozen" a few times, i.e. the mouse pointer doesn't move at all when I drag my finger over the touch pad. After a second or two the mouse pointer "wakes-up" again, don't know if this is touch pad related or if it is some other software that doesn't behave well. But this has only happened a few times so it isn't really a problem.

Are you sure of that? I thought Apple was using a mini displayport and a mini-DVI port, not mini-vga.

How do you go about that, hoj (or anyone who can help)?

I've read about the winflash thing, but I heard that's dodgy as hell.

To the poster above, the brightness on my UX31 changes, but not "a lot". You're right though, I would turn it off if I knew how.

^ actually, it changes a little bit up and down while on batt. But everytime when i entering warcraft III (not tested on other softwares which require full screen switch yet), the brightness level always drops to its very first level (the default one). The weird thing is that, the level set within the option menu of the program DOES remain constant. I only have to click RIGHT on the slider button (w/o moving it to the left or right to actually change the brightness level) to make the screen MAGICALLY much brighter

    Cannot understand at all.

The problem I had with mine was the trackpad (Sentelic) where it jumps randomly. I had the Sandisk drive 256gb and the benchmark was slow for both 4k read/write but for MS office, internet and windows startup I did not see a difference compared to my Vertex 3.
I updated to bios 210 without problem. However, nothing fixed my problematic touchpad so I had to return it yesterday.

I think it is NOT worth calling a feature, but a problem.

I've tried turning off all possible options, but no luck.

I've already reinstall Display driver, but no luck.

no thats wrong. next generation wont be with aluminium body. they want to use materials kind of carbon, its cheaper.
also with touchdisplay which will be much more thicker then the monitors now.
also 14" or 15" will be standard.

    I have recently bought a UX31.

SanDisk 128GB SSD and Elan touchpad

Not having any problems with the touchpad, keyboard or construction.

I feel that the computer is lightning fast. The SSD gets 7,5 in Windows. It gets bad results in AS SSD though. The main problem I am having is the wlan card. It just seem to disconnect very often. The speeds I am getting is REALLY low when I transfer data through the wireless. Its also got a really weak signal.

I have downloaded the latest wlan drivers from asus support site. Is there anything I can? Would hate to send this computer back.

I posted about it a few pages back. I used the BIOSes easy flash. Apparently (and incredibly) this is unreliable if you save the BIOS file onto NTFS (which is what I did, of course, into C:\).

Has anyone seen the "Gold Rose" model? Jesus Christ it looks good, something I didn't expect considering the name. I was expecting something equally tacky as the "Hot Pink" one but wow - it's absolutely stunning. Shame I really need a new computer ASAP for school, or I'd have easily waited to get the Gold Rose one!

I put the new BIOS version on a USB stick when I did my BIOS update using the BIOS easy flash function. Now I know I should stick with that approach for upcoming BIOS updates.

How to upgrade the BIOS using the upgrade functionality of the BIOS is described in the UX31E manual under the heading "Updating the BIOS". Note that darkfinger reported that his UX31E was bricked due to a failed BIOS upgrade to BIOS version 210. He had the new BIOS version on the NTFS formatted SSD during the update while I used a FAT formatted USB stick (but not because I new that there where any problems related to using NTFS formatted disks during BIOS upgrade when I did it, that was just luck).

FAT32 is a much more older and universal file system that NTFS, it might not be as efficient when used in windows, but pretty much all OS'es and other types of controllers like the bios can read it without a problem. For anything at a basic level, i'd recommend FAT32. It's probable the bios expected FAT32, tried to update, but due to the different file system ended up bricked instead.
