I have a new UX31A. After fixing the wireless issue (disconnects every 37 seconds), I have one remaining issue that I'm unable to resolve. When connecting to an external monitor, when I close the laptop the monitor image becomes very erratic (ghost circles appearing on the screen, windows automatically opening/closing, screen jumping, on screen keyboard appearing, etc.), rendering it useless. When connected to two external monitors, this issue only occurs on the primary monitor. When I open the top slightly, the problems stops. I have updated drivers, updated bios, switched USB ports, and tried other monitors without success. I have even tried three other monitor adapters instead of the Asus supplied adapter. Nothing seems to help. Asus technical support said that I needed to reinstall Windows 8, which is a drastic action without any troubleshooting on there part. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling the driver for the laptop's display (Device Manager > Monitors > Right click on monitor/device > Uninstall...). Also, make any adjustments in the Display options for outputting to multiple sources, as well as any needed in the Advanced Power Options.

If you still run into it, and a Windows 8 re-install doesn't fix it (be sure to update chipset drivers first), then it could be a firmware problem.

I think when you close your laptop, keyboard and display very near and it made a small unwanted touch so just put something soft between them like the monitor cleaner cloth or kitchen tissue. I think it works.

Brilliant suggestion .... that resolved the issue unfortunately. Looks like a build tolerance issue. I will RMA the laptop and hope the replacement doesn't have this issue.

    Thank you.

Update - Asus replaced with a new UX31a because of this issue. Same problem - when lid is closed, the external monitor behaves erratically since screen is touching keyboard. Is anyone successfully using the UX31A touch with an external monitor without issues while fully closing the lid? The UX31A is being broadly deployed at my (large) company with almost all attaching an external monitor. I'm an early adopter. I hope Asus monitors this for since this will be a major customer sat issue.

I've been hearing of grounding/tolerance issues a lot with this chassis lately. Looks something Asus needs to address in future models.

Is my model exempt from this? Or is it all UX.

Just checked this myself, and seems like I am experiencing the same issue!

Can you disable touch pad or not?

    :( ...

Through device manager, yes. Right click on the PS/2 pointing device and select "disable" - not sure if there is a hotkey combo for disabling the trackpad on those or not. There's 3rd party software that will lock it as well - only other method is to physically disconnect the cable, but what a pain.
