I have an UX31a. It was purchased in Thailand, so it has a dual-language keyboard, US and Thai.

A problem recently surfaced where the keyboard sends extra characters. In Example:

    "s" sends "sg"
    "n" sends "n/"
    "space" sends " m"

This does not happen on every key, just four or five.

Also, the laptop boots into the BIOS every reboot, even if no one hits the F2 key.

    Any Ideas?

Welcome to the premier ASUS support forum. First check that the F2 key is not stuck (I assume F2 gets you into the BIOS). Once in the BIOS look for any errors. If there are none reset the BIOS to default (assuming you have not set any custom parameters). Another reason a computer may do this is due to a failing CMOS battery, if your BIOS displays currentt time is the time correct?
AFA the extra characters, if you connect an external KB does this solve the multi character issue?
See Allur's response below, I totally agree that the KB is defective.

Thanks! The F2 Key is not stuck.

None. Resetting the BIOS has no effect.

There are no errors, it enters BIOS as if you asked it to. Time and date are correct.

Yes, if you plug a USB keyboard, use an on screen keyboard, VNC, or synnergy, it also works fine.

Also I might add that the problem does not seem to be windows related, as it also messes up in a DOS shell safe mode.

It sounds like you have a defective keyboard, or that the keyboard cable is loose/improperly seated. Since the keyboard is not easily accessible, you will have to send your unit in for repairs. :(

You can attempt to re-install the keyboard driver in Device Manager. As AllurGroceries stated, though: it sounds like a faulty keyboard. Possibly the circuit(s) on the key matrix are not mapped correctly.
