Asus UX31a touch-Can I installl non Asus Touchpad Drivers?

I have an Asus UX31a and I am wondering how can I install better touchpad drivers for this machine. I am currently using the Asus Smart Gesture drivers for the touchpad, they work okay but want to find a smoother working touchpad driver. I am not sure if this laptop has elan touchpad, but I have read the Asus Smart Gesture is a wrapper for Elan touchpad driver. I want to know if Samsung elan touchpad drivers could work, and work better than the asus smart gesture drivers that I am currently using.

You can theoretically install any touchpad driver you want - but even if it takes, if it's not a compatible driver, it won't work (and may make things worse).

I have heard that samsung elan drivers work pretty well. I am using windows 8 64-bit right now. Are the ones that you linked problem-free for windows 8 64-bit?

 

I haven't used them myself, but the link came per a forum where other users tested and had some success.

I installed the newest elan touchpad driver you linked and didnt like it. I think I want to try to samsung elan touchpad driver now.

The acer one worked okay. It is weird non of them have the same smoothness and robustness like the macbook touchpad. The annoying part, there is some stuttering when scrolling on some webpages depending on power mode. When I am in high performance mode, or Power4gear high performance, it works fairly good but when I got to balanced power mode there is stuttering. Some are better than the others. I did not find the samsung driver yet which people are saying works really well. So I am still hunting the internet.

I found another but it's dated by about 2 and a half years.

 

Isnt that a windows 7 driver? it may not work well in windows 8 is my concern.

 

Yes it's a Windows 7 driver. You can try installing it within compatibility mode; it's a shot in the dark.
