I bought the Asus UX32A with the i3 and 6GB RAM/500GB HDD from Canada (Best Buy).

It is stated 7 hours of battery life for this and the i5 version, along with the UX32VD as well. I know I should expect less than the manufacturer's stated so I Was hoping for something around 6 hours, but looks like I am only getting around 5 hours from the current drain rates. I am not really doing anything too intensive, just normal web surfing, some video, some downloading. CPU Usage is normal, and fan is also passive, mostly quiet.

Anyone else with the UX32 model of the Zenbook getting only around 5 hours?

Yeah some manufactures idea of battery life is lowest brightness,Wifi,Bluetooth etc off and also sitting idle doing nothing.

I should mention, that I'm on Power4Gear's "Battery Saver"..with the lowest brightness and BT off. Pretty much ever 'option' in Power settings is set to maximize battery life. Still seeing only 5 hours with normal use. Is P4Gear recommended, or should I stick with the stock Windows 7 Power settings, like 'Power Saver' mode?

Id wager they will both give very similar results but thats also dependent on so many factors like what activities your doing at those times.

Even on the new Retina Macbook Pros its stated for 7 hours of battery life as example but most people are seeing around 5 hours on average from what i have gathered.

In all the laptops i have owned ive never been so lucky to hit the manufactures stated battery life while i have seen people claim they are getting what they should.

Same here. There is no standard for the manufacturer's claimed battery life, so I never believe them.

How do you like your UX32a? I am thinking about buying one. Any issues? How much thicker is it compared to the UX31a? What type of wireless card do you have? Who makes the hard drive? Did it come with a brown carrying sleeve? Does it have Intel Smart Connect Technology? Who makes the touchpad?

    Thanks,

Is it me, or did my battery life get even worse suddenly. I installed Battery Bar, and recently the new Smart Gesture touchpad. Now it says my full runtime is 4 Hours and 20 mins. What the hell is going on? Where's my 6 hours that I expect from the stated 7 hours?

Not at all, I just installed the Smart Gesture and Battery Bar. Battery Bar shows me a full run time of 4:20, sometimes 4:06 and sometimes 4:26 but never anything near 5:00. Pathetic.
