    How possible/easy would it be to swap the HDD in the computer for a nice new SSD?

    It is quite possible to swap out the hitachi drive. You need a 7mm SSD. There are quite a few posts and even a couple of youtube videos on it. While you are in there, put an 8GB stick of RAM in it.

    For some reason, the only video I could find was a hi speed turbo demonstration. Where are these threads and videos??

    Try this one. Just be sure to disconnect the battery, then hit the power button to fully discharge the laptop unlike the guy in the video.
