Wanted to get this information out there as I have found very few people talking about this with limited info.

I purchased an Asus UX501VW from Amazon last February and recently had the battery stop working.

I had had the laptop on my lap and got into a game to test out something and then got out maybe 3-5 minutes later. I was plugged in and the laptop was very warm near the rear as it usually is with it's not so perfect cooling.

I got out of the game got up and moved to the table which required me to unplug the laptop and change wall outlets and such.

When plugging it back in I noticed the charge light that is normally orange/green was flashing at me. I knew this was a fault as I've had quite a few laptops. What was at fault on the other hand is not up to me to say exactly. (Not sure if it's charging circuit or the battery itself)

Basically, I tried everything software based there was, BIOS update, holding power button stuff, and I wasn't going to crack it open as it has a 1 year warranty.

Anyway, got on the phone with Asus they are working on it. It has now been two and a half weeks and they still don't have an update for me. In the meantime I am now typing on a new laptop I got because I started school and NEED one for school and Asus hasn't given much choice as they are still working on it!

Also, while doing research waiting for this fix I have now realized why doesn't Asus let it's US customers extender their warranty!?

Anyway, wanted to get this fiasco up so others that may be having this problem can see this.

your credit card gives you an extra 1 year warranty. They will pay for any repairs, up to the purchase price.
I hope you bought it with a credit card rather than any other form of payment.

This is why Paypal, gift cards, and its alternatives ALL suck.

I'm guessing they're waiting for a new motherboard, if a simple battery replacement didn't fix it.

What do you mean by this?

I purchased it from amazon.com in February last year and it only came with the standard Asus 1 year Accidental warranty. I was told over the phone I had +30 days or something of that sort of repair coverage once I receive the laptop just in case their repair has issues.

With what they're saying I will get a little bit more warranty past this February due to the repair and after that I'm on my own?

look at the terms of your credit card. Amex, visa, mastercard all offer 1 year extended warranty on top of manufacturer's warranty.

This is a credit card benefit, as a perk for being their customer. It has nothing to do with the manufacturer. The credit card company foots the bill.... up to the purchase price of the laptop. If the repair cost exceeds your purchase price, usually the credit card company will take the laptop and give you a refund of your purchase price.
All you need to do is submit a claim, along with your receipt and credit card statement.

Did you pay for your amazon purchase by credit card? If yes, then you automatically get an extra year warranty from your credit card company. If you need more information, just call the number on the back of your credit card and ask about the extended warranty benefit.

Also, I believe all repairs come with a 90 day warranty, regardless of warranty status. Call Asus to verify this.

Ah I have not heard of this as I have a local credit union that does not offer this.

It is a bummer that Asus being the big company they are making some great products does not offer extended warranty packages like the majority of the other manufacturers do. Yes, there are alternatives but it is typically best to have one through the original manufacturer.

Yes it is 30 or 90 days I cannot remember what I was told off of the top of my head. I cannot extend this so after this it will be self repair

    doesn't matter if it's a credit union.

If there's an amex, visa, or mastercard logo on your credit card, you get a 1 year extra warranty.

Warranty claims go directly through amex, visa, discover, mastercard. Not your bank or credit union.

I have a Capital One mastercard. Capital One does not process the warranty claim. Mastercard does. I've used the extended warranty a number of times in the past. very painless process.

if you actually paid with visa, then just google "visa extended warranty" for details.

it looks like only visa Signature cards and above are eligible.

I entered my visa signature number and it let me register. You should still call your credit union and see if there is an extended warranty.
The visa website states that some issuers might include it even on the base Visa.

if not, oh well. You should consider getting a card with purchase benefits and no fees.
