Rumored successor to UX501. macbook clone with more power.
numpad removed, thinner bezel like XPS 15, perhaps a 1060 probably low power version.
if this image is true, bigger trackpad as well.
if razer can cram a 1060 into a similar chassis, asus should be able as well.

Razer Blade 1060 runs extremely hot and is notably slower than the other 1060 machines though. Not to mention that it runs twice as loud as the current UX501. Personally, I do not find the performance worth the sacrifice. Especially if they follow Razer's horrible design choices relating to internal layouts.

Nice looking model, that's for sure. Hopefully there wouldn't be throttling issues if they do go with such a thin frame.

What horrible design choices?
Average 1060 Fire Strike score is 9600, Razer Blade gets 93-9400 on average. I wouldn't call that "notably slower". -

Oh, so you fancy having the BIOS chip under the heatsink? Or the mosfets breaking down for no reason? Cause Razer like that - they've had that on several blades now.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -

the GTX 1050ti is probably a better choice in a thin laptop....although I was very interested in it because of the 1060, even with the inevitable thermal, throttling issues with this design choice.

Leaving the quality, design, durability issues aside that don_svetio mentioned, not to mention the dismal Customer Service, my skylake RB is performing much better now after the bios update and disabling ASPM in bios.
No Undervolting or Overclocking...I got 9608 in firestrike.

GTX1050Ti ?
-
don_svetlio In the Pipe, Five by Five.
Likely yes. A smart move if you ask me. A 1050 Ti runs cool enough that the UX550 should be a better option than the Razer Blade 14 for a thin and light productivity/gaming machine as it will run cooler, quiter and potentially have less heat-related issues. -
I hope that no. I must fully disagree.
If you are right then there would not be significant upgrade comparing to Ux501, which I have / the latest Zenbook Ux5 version.
Processor FHD i7-7700HQ previous 6700HQ – 5% difference
RAM 16GB / I have 24GB – it should be similar I hope so 8+16
HDD does not matter / you can have what you want
Others similar or negligible
Therefore the only difference should graphics card.
GTX1050Ti 4GB / 960 4GB - max 5% difference
GTX1060 3 or 4 GB / 960 4GB – min 20% difference – it does make sense
If they do that (as you wrote) they would lose many potential clients interested with the change. Am I right ? -
Gtx1050ti is better than gtx970m
-
don_svetlio In the Pipe, Five by Five.
You do realize that the 1050 Ti is about 60-70% ahead of the 960M? The 1060 is over double the performance. You are most certainly wrong about the GPUs
If you OC, yes. Else, they're on par.sicily428 likes this. -
Are you sure about GPU ? would you please send some comparison to prove it ?

You could search on google "gtx1050ti (mobile) vs gtx960m"

You do realize that we are talking about a 960 M, not a desktop 960. The 960M is a 750 Ti. -
1050 ~ 965m
1050ti ~ 970m
1060 ~ in between 970 & 980 DESKTOP
Is your basic breakdown when comparing across generations. -

More or less, yes.
Jut to add - an unlocked and OCed 980M is basically a 1060 mobile at stock.CedricFP likes this. -

If it has a 1050ti and a good display, I will definitely be buying this over the XPS 15. -

Looks good to me. Design drastically improved over the last generation and will be nicely powerful with a 1050ti.

I haven't actually had much experience with Asus laptops, what is the build quality and cooling situation likely to be?
Also, if it's going to cost 2000 euros then what is it likely to cost in the UK/USA? -
Well, the Zenbooks have always had great build quality since they are produced in an aluminum unibody. The cooling on the old UX501/G501 with the GTX 960M was excellent and the laptop stayed quiet even under heavy load. So I'll be surprised if that isn't the case with this new model.
Laptops are always more expensive outside of the US, so I assume it will be a little bit cheaper but not by much. This is an XPS 15 competitor after all, and that laptop retails for around 2000+ $ if im not mistaken. One of the great advantages of the UX501/G501 was that they were 4-500 $ cheaper than the XPS 15, perhaps that will also be the case here, but I doubt it. -
i want to see the internal component, it running with GTX 1050Ti right?

1050 or 1050Ti depending on what spec you buy.

I've seen a few reviews and it looks like an overall great laptop! I do have a few concerns however which I will highlight below (These don't actually concern me as they wouldn't deter me from buying this machine at all. They are just things I've picked up on so far).
They're claiming 14 hrs battery life which I think is just silly. The machine has high-end components and a 73Wh battery, I predict it to last more like 5-7 hours.
Although the build quality looks good, it seems to pick up fingerprints really, really easily (ASUS actually have staff with gloves and cleaning products next to the display units to keep wiping them down haha). Also, a couple of the hands-on videos I've seen have picked up on some pretty serious keyboard flex as shown in the link below:
I'm not personally bothered by fingerprints as I'll likely slap a skin on it but I really hope the keyboard flex is sorted before it is officially released in July.
The pricing starts at $1299 (equating to just over £1000 in the UK) which I think is fair. This would be for a unit with the 1080p display, quad-core i5 and a GTX 1050 I would imagine. The lowest end XPS 15 with a quad-core i5, FHD screen, 1050 GPU and a hard drive instead of an SSD costs £1350 in the UK. This means the Zenbook could be favourable to the XPS.hmscott likes this. -
yeah i saw that women give some little pressure on keyboard area and i see it like made out of plastic not aluminium lol, hope they fix it soon that was very bad.
and i hope there a configuration with i7 gtx 1050 ti and FHD non touch screen. and lets see how good this machine will dispose the heat.hmscott likes this. -
so they finally milled this as a unibody chassis instead of the previous aluminum shell over plastic frame?
Looks nice going with matte black. I wonder if they will make an ROG version this time.
But come on !...... still using hdmi 1.4 port ???!
the fock
$1299 with a 4k screen is much more reasonable than the last generation.
oh wait, that's the price of the quad i5.
boooooo.

It's aluminium - there's no plastic on the chassis of the UX550hmscott likes this. -
why do people like to press on the keyboard area that hard?
it's not like you actually type with that much force.... enough to bend the chassis.don_svetlio likes this. -
I think she might have just had a dodgy display unit. All other hands-on reviews I've read so far haven't picked up on such an issue.don_svetlio likes this.

I honestly wish they had kept the 96whr battery from the previous gen. That with a full hd version would have made a perfect combo.

Is the 4k panel an RGBW Pentile again? If it is, I don't think this machine is that promising.

June 22nd, still no release date announced...
My Zenbook Pro UX501VW is out of commission after less than 1.5 years (my fault... and didn't get the extended warranty/accident protection, won't make that mistake again) so I'm looking to grab one of these, but I don't want to sit around for another month -
I've heard July. They seem to be ramping up the marketing, so it feels close:

1.5 years... you're probably in your credit card extended warranty period.
all major credit cards give you one extra year warranty, their expense. -

Hoping to see some reviews surface soon. From what I've read and watched so far, the flexing keyboard hasn't been amended and the build quality in general is a bit disappointing.
Also, I send ASUS a message on fb only to find out that the 1050ti won't be available in the UK. I may still get the 1050 model if it's a 4GB card, the build quality isn't terrible and the pricing is reasonable.
I'm starting to get the feeling that ASUS hasn't quite delivered what consumers were hoping for and I may just wait for the next generation XPS 15. -

Still better than the XPS 15's VRM overheating
At least with the UX550 it takes a maximum stress test to get it to throttle.Darkhan and Vistar Shook like this.
