Alright, here is the deal I just got a brand new Sony VPCCW17FX for Xmas, and so far i'm loving the speed and power. My main concern is this:

I'm a student, My laptop needs are basic video editing (I make slideshows for friends and family), mostly web browing and word processing though. I do need good battery life, but also something that is powerful which so far seems like water/oil in laptops.

Apprently Sony's have a battery drain problem, and that doesn't go down with me. So I went back to Best Buy to look at my options, and the Asus Ul50Ag caught my attention. After reading reviews, apprently it's really slow and it's only good for web browsing. Then I hear about Turbo 33? Does the AG model support this or is that only found in the Ul50VT model?

If you were in my situation which would you recommend? Is the AG really that slow of a laptop?!

I don't think that neither UL50AG or UL50vt are too slow for what you do, but UL50vt should be faster in turbo mode (you can overclock your Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3G to 1.7G with turbo 33) than UL50AG.

Also, on the UL50vt, you got switchable graphics (from NVIDIA GeForce G210M to Intel GMA 4500MHD) while you only have GMA 4500 on UL50AG. If you want to run any game (G210M is not a super graphic card but it's a hundred time better than any Intel GMA...)

So according to me, you should go with the UL50vt.

You can see the difference of the turbo mode here : http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3637&p=2

And the benchmark of graphic cards here :

I also read on newegg.ca that the two model weren't built the same way (the materials were different) but I'm not sure about that...

Thanks for the quick response, Is there any stores that sell the Ul50VT like Costco? Walmart? Sears? I'm not sure what other electronic stores are left since Circuit and Comp shut down their stores. :( How portable is the Ul50VT I know the screen is bigger but are they still pretty portable for in classroom use?

    You live in USA?
I think newegg.com is the best place to get it if you have no problem with buying it on the internet... (I don't know about USA stores...)

I think it is alright to bring it in class. I use to carry my 15,4' laptop (heavier and thicker than the UL50) in university and there's no problem at all (15 inches is mainstream)...

If you think 15,6 inches is too big, get the UL80vt, which is 14 inches.

Well, I think the UL50Vt and UL50Ag should be using the same chassis, so if the size/weight/physical attributes is what you're looking for, you could just hit up BB and look at the UL50Ag.

Personally, I'd go UL30Vt, actually. Same internal hardware, battery life, screen res, and keyboard size as the UL50Vt and UL80Vt, but its the smallest and lightest of the lot.

Less flexing on the keyboard since it's smaller from what I heard... (but no numpad on the 13 and 14 inches models!)

Is the AG incapable of being overclocked due to the slower ram?

I really don't know why but I tend to think that it is only a matter of processor.
